"we have managed to get Post Malone to perform"
Post Malone will perform in Guwahati on December 8, 2025, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed.
This comes after the Assam Cabinet approved a new policy to promote concert tourism in the state.
The announcement was made following a Cabinet meeting in Dergaon, located in the Golaghat district.
Sarma said: “Our neighbouring state, Meghalaya, has been holding concerts, and there was a Coldplay concert in Ahmedabad, which reportedly generated Rs. 600 crore in revenue for the state.
“We had mentioned a policy on concert tourism in this year’s budget. The Cabinet approved this today [Wednesday].”
The new policy aims to position Assam as a cultural destination capable of hosting high-profile international music events.
Sarma said that, alongside Guwahati, the cities of Jorhat and Dibrugarh will also serve as venues for upcoming concerts.
He said: “Assam had been left out of the concert tourism economy… with the new policy, we believe we can have a healthy competition with Meghalaya.”
Sarma further confirmed that the Post Malone concert will be the first held under the new policy.
He added: “Earlier performers would opt for Shillong, but now we have managed to get Post Malone to perform at Guwahati on 8 December.
“We will also expand the concert economy to Jorhat and Dibrugarh.”
Post Malone’s upcoming performance will be his second appearance in India.
The American rapper first performed in the country in 2022 at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Race Course as part of Zomato’s Feeding India initiative.
Known for his chart-topping single ‘Rockstar’, which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018, Malone achieved further success with ‘Sunflower’, a track from the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Until now, Meghalaya has led concert tourism in Northeast India.
Shillong has hosted major acts including Ed Sheeran, Bryan Adams, Nick Carter, and Mr Big.
Norwegian DJ Alan Walker performed in both Guwahati and Shillong in September 2024 during his Walker World India Tour, which included 13 Indian cities.
Meghalaya’s Bacardi NH7 Weekender festival is also set to mark its tenth anniversary this year.
Guwahati’s most recent major concert was by Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, who performed at the Helipad Ground at Sarusajai Sports Complex in December 2024 as part of his Dil-Luminati India Tour.
With Post Malone’s December show, the Assam government hopes to mark a new chapter in the state’s live music and tourism landscape.
