The actress claimed Nasir and Omi planned to rape
Pori Moni testified against three people, including businessman Nasir U Mahmood and his associate Tuhin Siddique Omi, in an attempted rape and murder case that she filed.
The actress arrived at the court with her husband.
Judge Md Hemayet Uddin of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-9 recorded her deposition.
However, because testimony had not been completed, the court set January 11, 2023, as the next date for proceedings.
Tuhin Siddique Omi and Shahidul, two of the accused, were also present in court.
Pori Moni filed the case on June 14, 2021, at the Savar Model Police Station.
The actress claimed Nasir and Omi planned to rape and murder her on the night of June 8 when she visited Dhaka Boat Club.
A manhunt was launched shortly after the case was filed and suspects Nasir and Omi were apprehended.
Nasir was expelled from Dhaka Boat Club’s executive committee just hours after the real estate developer was arrested in the rape case.
Following their arrest in Uttara, police filed a narcotics case against Nasir and Omi. They recovered alcohol and Yaba pills.
Nasir denied the claims, accusing Pori of misbehaving at the club while drunk and attempting to defame him.
Pori Moni was linked to a separate drugs case and was arrested on August 4, 2021.
On November 28, 2022, a Dhaka court denied a petition to dismiss the Narcotics Control Act case filed against her.
After her lawyer Nelanjona Refat filed an application, Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of Dhaka’s Special Judge’s Court-10 issued the order.
According to the petition, the time limit for completing the trial in the case has already passed. As a result, the case should be dismissed because the court failed to resolve it within the allotted 135 working days.
While opposing Pori’s plea, the prosecution stated that it is not required to resolve the case within five working days. As a result, the petition should be denied.
Following a hearing of both parties, the court dismissed the application for cancellation of the proceedings.
The court also set December 15, 2021, for the next hearing of the case. Pori Moni’s lawyers represented her at the court in her absence.
Pori Moni’s two other associates, Ashraful Islam Dipu and Kabir Howlader had been present.
On August 31, 2021, a Dhaka court granted bail to Pori Moni.
On October 4, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a charge sheet against them.
On November 15, 2021, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Emrul Kayesh took notice of the charges issued by police against the accused.
On January 5, judge of Dhaka Special Judge of Court-10 Md Nazrul Islam indicted Pori Moni and two others in the case.
On January 30, Pori Moni appealed before the High Court for quashing the case and subsequent indictment by the trial court.
