Mumbai Police have seized 48 terabytes of mostly adult images and videos during a raid on Shilpa Shetty’s home.
This comes as part of an investigation into her husband, Raj Kundra’s alleged connections to illegal porn films.
The businessman was arrested on July 19, 2021, for allegedly producing and distributing pornographic films through mobile apps.
Police said they have “sufficient evidence” that he is a “key conspirator”.
He has been remanded in custody until July 27, 2021.
Raj is accused of running the app Hotshots, which allegedly streamed pornography, through his company Viaan Industries.
His wife Shilpa Shetty was questioned and she denied any involvement.
In a statement, she said that her husband was innocent and said that it was co-accused Pradeep Bakshi who was involved with Hotshots.
Shilpa also described the content on Hotshots as “erotica” rather than pornography.
Mumbai Police are now investigating Raj’s possible links to several other apps that streamed pornographic content.
It was reported that after Hotshots was removed from app stores, police believe that Raj set up more apps.
The case has seen several women, such as Poonam Pandey, make accusations against Raj Kundra.
In Poonam’s case, she alleged that Raj and his associates continued to use her content illegally after she was no longer a client of his.
Model Sagarika Shona Suman said she was offered a role in a web series produced by Raj.
She claimed that he “demanded a nude audition” from her, to which she refused.
Since her allegations against Raj Kundra, Sagarika has claimed that she has received death threats.
Sagarika had said: “I am disturbed and depressed because I am getting calls from different online platforms. They are threatening me.
“I am getting threats of death and rape.
“People are calling me from different numbers and asking me what wrong has Raj Kundra done.”
She added that she has also been accused of destroying Raj Kundra’s business. She said:
“They are threatening me and accusing me of shutting down their business.”
“They even said that you people watch porn films that’s why we are making it.”
Meanwhile, police may call Shilpa Shetty in for further questioning.
Officers also plan to clone her phone in order to find out whether she was involved.
Police are looking into whether Shilpa benefitted from her husband’s alleged links to the pornographic film business.
This comes in relation to her position as director of Viaan Industries.
After the allegations against her husband came to light, Shilpa resigned from her position at the firm.
Police are now looking into whether the Bollywood actress received any money generated from adult content.
