"people don’t know the real me."

Shamita Shetty has admitted that being Shilpa Shetty’s sister has not been easy for her.

She made the admission on Bigg Boss OTT, where she is a contestant.

Host Karan Johar had praised Shamita for her behaviour on the show.

He went on to ask her if she was carrying any “baggage” as he noticed that she was mostly by herself on the reality show.

Shamita then got emotional and said that the last two decades in the film industry have “not been easy” and that she has had to live under the shadow of her sister Shilpa Shetty.

She explained: “I have had a very difficult journey of 20-25 years in the industry, I am more confident as a person now.

“People know me as Shamita Shetty, Shilpa’s sister.

“It’s a protective shadow, I am lucky to have that, but people don’t know the real me.”

She went on to say that in the years that she has been recognised as Shilpa’s sister, she has had a genuine desire to explore who she really is.

On the show, Shamita said that she has been struggling to carve out her own identity.

Karan then motivated her by saying that now, people would want to know more about her.

Since Bigg Boss OTT began, Shamita Shetty has been embroiled in confrontations with her fellow contestants.

In one incident with Divya Agarwal, Shamita was called “bossy”.

Shamita had previously told Divya how Nishant Bhat had crossed the line with her.

She said: “I don’t want to mention what incident it was but he once crossed the line with me and I didn’t like it.

“I told him sternly that he did wrong and he didn’t speak to me after that.”

“I just thought I should keep a distance from him because I don’t want to be reminded of that.

“At the stage also when I saw him I just reacted that I know him.”

Divya’s behaviour on the show was criticised by Karan.

Divya said: “I don’t need Bigg Boss in my career.”

Karan then said: “Tell me, Divya ma’am, if you don’t need the show, why are you here?

“Yeh Bigg Boss ka ghar hai, this is no party. You all are playing a game, let’s get that straight.”
