"I was unfortunately being heavily trolled"
Shamita Shetty has opened up on the Raj Kundra scandal and the effect it had on her.
Her brother-in-law was arrested in July 2021 over his alleged involvement in the production and distribution of pornography through mobile apps.
Just days later, Shamita entered the Bigg Boss OTT house where she went on to finish as the second runner-up.
Whilst on the show, the scandal continued to unfold, with other celebrities like Sherlyn Chopra coming out with further allegations against Raj.
On what the family was facing while she was on Bigg Boss OTT, Shamita said:
“It was very difficult for me the first time around because the situation was very different.
“I was unfortunately being heavily trolled for no fault of mine.
“My family also, at that point in time, felt that it’s better for me to just lock myself in that house.
“And also it was a previous commitment, and I didn’t want to back off because of everything that happened. I wanted to stick to my word and continue. As they say, ‘The show must go on’.”
After her stint on Bigg Boss OTT, Shamita Shetty is now a contestant on Bigg Boss 15.
This marks her third appearance on the reality series, having quit Bigg Boss 3 midway through the series.
It raised questions as to why she is on Bigg Boss for the third time. Shamita explained:
“At the end of the day, it is work for me also. I am also sitting at home because of the pandemic. I have lost out on a lot of shows, lots of events.
“Work has been very very slow for two years. I also have to make a living.
“I may be Shamita Shetty to the world, whatever that means, but I also have to make a living.”
“I take care of my bills. So, contrary to some people’s beliefs, I am not the sort of person who’s fine sitting at home doing nothing. I need to work. That’s me as a person.
“And also, Bigg Boss came to me, it came to me before everything happened with my family.
“I know the reach of the show. A lot of people watch it. It’s got a great fan following. And like I said, I was getting paid to sit in the house.
“For me, I take it as an experience. Whatever is said and done, you go into that show, you come out a stronger person.
“And I experienced it the first time around. So, that’s it. That’s one of the reasons I said yes to do the show.
“And of course, I was getting paid well, so why would I not be a part of it.”
After spending weeks in judicial custody, Raj Kundra was released on bail in September 2021.
Shilpa Shetty told investigators she was unaware of her husband’s business ventures.
