Raj Kundra sparked divorce rumours after he announced a “separation” on social media.
The businessman shared a cryptic post on X that read:
“We have separated and kindly request you to give us time during this difficult period.”
The post made some wonder if his and Shilpa Shetty’s marriage is over.
One user wrote: “Separate means? Divorce?”
Another said: “Sad, it’s shocking news indeed.”
Believing that the post was about his marriage, some social media users claimed they saw it coming.
One person said: “We knew it from day one.”
Another commented: “Okay. Good for you both and it’s your personal life. Take time off to heal.”
Others felt it was a publicity stunt, with one person asking:
“Is it a movie gimmick?”
Another comment read: “Cheap publicity.”

In a later post, Raj Kundra revealed that he is actually “separating” from the mask he has been wearing over the past few months.
The post read: “Farewell Masks …it’s time to separate now!
“Thank you for keeping me protected over the last two years. Onto the next phase of my journey.”
The post arrived days after the trailer of his debut film UT69 was unveiled.
Raj stars in the film, which revolves around his prison time.
At the film’s press conference, he arrived with his mask on. He later removed it and revealed why he wore it.
Raj explained: “I wore the mask out of pain. The media trial was painful. It was more painful than my legal trial that was going on.
“I don’t blame you as you were doing your work. But it was so painful that I wanted to cover up. I don’t want to be spotted. I don’t want to get clicked.”
In July 2021, Raj Kundra was arrested and detained in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail for allegedly producing and distributing pornography.
He remained in prison until September 2021.
Raj was booked under numerous sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act.

Explaining how Shilpa reacted when he told her about the film, Raj said:
“I told her that I have a script and was waiting for her answer.”
“When I turned away from her, a flying chappal came at my face. I think she thought that the idea was a little dicey first. Maybe she thought that the film wouldn’t get made.
“She was very supportive. She asked me, ‘Will you be able to act?’ I told her that I will be able to since I have done some method acting by going to jail.”
UT69 will be released in theatres on November 3, 2023.
