"it has always been a dream to work in Bollywood."

Singer-songwriter Guru Randhawa is reportedly set to make his acting debut in an upcoming Bollywood film.

He is no stranger to Hindi films, with several tracks in Bollywood films.

This includes the likes of ‘Suit Suit’ from Hindi Medium and ‘Lagdi Lahore Di’ from Street Dancer 3D.

He is now reportedly set for an acting role in an untitled musical drama.

Guru is believed to be the main character in the film, which will tell the story of a young musician who goes from anonymity and reaches stardom.

Guru confirmed the news and said he has been thinking about becoming an actor for a while.

He said: “Yes, it has always been a dream to work in Bollywood.

“After working in music videos with Mrunal Thakur, Nushrat Bharucha and Nora Fatehi, I am absolutely comfortable in front of the camera.

“Over the years, I have been playing different roles for my three-minute music videos, and now, I am ready for my Bollywood debut.”

Shooting is said to begin later in 2021.

Guru Randhawa said he signed to do the film in June 2021.

In a statement, he said:

“I’m quite excited to explore new horizons and expand my capabilities.

“As an artist, I’ve always strived to discover myself in new and creative ways.

“Working on this film was quite an instinctive decision and I’m blessed to have this opportunity to showcase my journey and talent.”

Although Guru’s name is synonymous with Punjabi music, he initially did not think about acting in Punjabi films.

“I’ve been offered Punjabi movies before, but at that point, I wasn’t ready to act in films.

“Now that I am comfortable acting, it feels like this is the right time to work in Punjabi and Hindi films.”

On what attracts him about Bollywood, Guru explained:

“The canvas that the Hindi film industry works on is huge — right from the screenplay, to choreography, casting and writing. I wish the films I work on fulfil that big dream.

“I’ve always looked up to actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Irrfan [Khan] and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.

“In fact, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a few of them when I composed and sang for their films. They inspire me.”

The upcoming project will be produced by Endemol.

Abhishek Rege, CEO of Endemol Shine India, said:

“We at Endemol Shine India are pleased to collaborate with and launch the musical powerhouse that is Guru Randhawa!

“The joy as producers and creators is to be able to create content that has wide appeal and is unique, relatable yet entertaining for a wide demographic.

“Guru has a dedicated fan base who I’m sure will be very excited to see him make his acting debut.”

While details of the film are yet to be revealed, the filmmakers have stated that it “will be a rollercoaster ride peppered with lyrical and foot-tapping music featuring a loved much musical icon”.
