"then we realised what he was doing."
Pervert Waqas Mahmood, aged 28, formerly of Perth, Scotland, escaped a jail sentence after he lured young girls to his car where they saw him carrying out sex acts.
He had told Perth Sheriff Court that the stress of moving to Scotland from England had led to him enticing young girls to watch him perform sex acts.
The father-of-two called two 13-year-old girls to his BMW to “ask for directions” but as they approached his car, they could see him performing a sex act.
Mahmood repeatedly searched for children to expose himself to.
He claimed that he was a carer for his wife and she would not be able to look after their children if he was jailed.
He said he was the victim of mistaken identity but his claim was rejected after the court heard his DNA was found on semen-stained items within the vehicle.
Mahmood had parked near a secondary school in Perth and was found acting in a similar way in a nearby street just days later.
He was “meandering” around the neighbourhood in his car before pulling in and calling over two teenage girls.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson said: “He’s a man just unable to control himself in the presence of teenage girls.
“He drives round the streets of Perth for young girls to expose himself to for his own sexual gratification.”
One of the girls explained: “My friend went to the window, then we realised what he was doing.
“He was playing with himself. He was touching his penis with his hand. He was looking all about the place while he was playing with himself.
“He was looking at both of us. I felt weird after I had seen that. I told my guidance teacher and she phoned the police.”
Her friend said: “He was looking at me while he was touching his private parts. His penis was erect. I didn’t feel good, I felt uncomfortable after this happened.”
A forensic scientist explained that the jogging bottoms worn by Mahmood on the day he was arrested contained semen traces around the crotch area. Tissues recovered from the car also contained semen traces.
Mahmood was found guilty of carrying out a sex act in front of the two girls on Viewlands Road, Perth, on March 22, 2018.
The pervert was also found guilty of exposing himself to a 15-year-old girl on Viewlands Road West on March 27, 2018.
Both offences took place near Perth Academy and Perth High School.
Mahmood’s solicitor told the court:
“This is his first conviction. He only lived here for four or five months prior to these allegations.
“Mr Mahmood struggled to cope with the transition, having moved to Scotland. Since the trial, he has moved to Bury. He has no plans to return to Scotland.”
Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said he was “not the slightest bit surprised” that Mahmood was convicted.
He said: “The report says he is at high risk of being convicted of further sexual offences.”
The Daily Mail reported that Mahmood was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and under social work supervision for three years. He was also ordered to undertake 280 hours of unpaid work.
