It was a controversial time for Paresh Rawal when the actor announced his exit from Hera Pheri 3.
The upcoming film is the next instalment in a popular franchise which began in 2000.
In the first two films, Paresh was seen as Baburao Ganpatrao ‘Babu Bhaiya’ Apte.
The movies also starred Akshay Kumar (Raju) and Suniel Shetty (Ghanshyam ‘Shyam’).
In May 2025, Paresh Rawal confirmed that he would no longer star in the third instalment.
He had tweeted: “I wish to put it on record that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 was not due to creative differences.
“I reiterate that there are no creative disagreements with the filmmaker.
“I hold immense love, respect, and faith in Mr Priyadarshan.”
Paresh Rawal’s departure allegedly disrupted the film’s production.
This then reportedly resulted in significant losses for Akshay, who was also serving as the producer of the movie
Akshay consequently sued Paresh Rawal.
However, Paresh recently appeared on Himanshu Mehta’s podcast, where the actor was quizzed about the controversy.
To this, he answered: “There’s no controversy.
“I believe that when people have loved something so much, then you have to be extra careful.
“It is our responsibility toward the audience.
“The audience has given you so much adulation. You can’t take things for granted.
“I was of the opinion that everyone should put effort in together. Nothing else. It is all resolved now.”
When Himanshu specifically asked about Hera Pheri 3 resuming production with the original cast, Paresh said:
“It was going to happen all along, but it’s just that we had to fine-tune ourselves.
“After all, all of them are creative, be it Priyadarshan, Akshay, or Suniel. They are friends for many, many, many years.”
In the wake of his departure, Paresh was called “foolish” for his decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3.
Akshay Kumar responded to this by saying: “It is not right to use this kind of word for one of my co-stars like ‘foolish’ or something.
“I would not appreciate it.
“I have worked with [Paresh] for the last 30–32 years. We are very good friends.”
“He is a great actor. I really admire him.”
On the work front, Paresh Rawal was last seen in The Storyteller.
It premiered at the 27th Busan International Film Festival in 2022.
The film was released on Disney+ Hotstar in January 2025.
