A group of police officers in Lahore allegedly robbed a call centre while posing as officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

The incident took place in the Civil Lines area, raising serious concerns over abuse of power within law enforcement.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), two uniformed officers, along with their accomplices, stormed the call centre, brandishing weapons.

They forced the staff to withdraw PKR 300,000 (£860) from an ATM and took an additional PKR 250,000 (£720) in cash.

The group also seized five laptops before fleeing the scene.

A woman named Amber Nawaz filed the complaint, prompting an immediate police investigation.

Civil Lines Police swiftly responded, leading to the arrest of five individuals, including two officers identified as Shahid and Usman.

They were stationed at the Police Training Centre in Farooqabad and Model Town, respectively.

A case of extortion and abuse of authority has been registered.

PKR 500,000 (£1,400) in stolen cash has been recovered and handed over to the Investigation Wing.

Authorities have vowed strict legal action against all those involved.

This incident is not an isolated case. Misuse of power by police officers has been repeatedly reported across Pakistan.

Previously, in Lahore’s Qila Gujjar Singh area, five officers were suspended for allegedly extorting money from a citizen during a routine check.

An internal inquiry confirmed that the police officers had taken PKR 1,000 (£2.90) from a man.

They later coerced him into signing a false statement to cover up their crime.

In another incident on February 3, 2025, police officers in Dera Ghazi Khan allegedly seized PKR 2 million (£5,700) from a petrol pump cashier.

The officers detained him under the pretext of investigating illegal weapons but instead took him to the CIA staff and confiscated his cash.

The District Police Officer (DPO) of Dera Ghazi Khan, Syed Ali, launched an inquiry that revealed a more complex scheme.

While PKR 300,000 (£860) was taken by the officers, the cashier himself had misappropriated PKR 1.7 million (£4,800).

Following the investigation, a case was registered under Section 382 of the Pakistan Penal Code, leading to the arrest of three officers.

These cases highlight the growing concern over law enforcement corruption in Pakistan.

While authorities have taken steps to investigate and punish those responsible, public trust in the police force remains fragile.

Calls for stricter oversight, improved internal accountability, and stronger anti-corruption measures continue to grow as more cases of abuse come to light.
