Police confirmed the recovery of a stolen motorcycle
Two suspects posing as food delivery riders were apprehended by the public in Karachi’s Bhittaiabad area while attempting a robbery.
The suspects, identified as Rehan and Shaman, had been targeting citizens under the guise of food delivery riders.
However, during one of their robberies, residents grew suspicious and managed to capture the two.
After confronting the thieves, an angry crowd handed them over to the police following a brief physical altercation.
Police confirmed the recovery of a stolen motorcycle and firearms from the suspects.
The authorities have initiated an investigation to uncover the full scope of their criminal activities, and legal proceedings are underway.
This incident sheds light on the rampant issue of street crimes in Karachi despite ongoing efforts by authorities to curb these illegal activities.
The police have claimed a decline in robberies recently, but such incidents continue to fuel public concern.
This robbery attempt follows another troubling incident involving food delivery workers.
On March 20, 2025, a Foodpanda rider was assaulted by restaurant staff and security guards at Karachi’s Tipu Sultan food street.
The rider had been waiting to pick up his order just before Iftar when the altercation broke out.
Video footage of the incident quickly went viral on social media, showing the rider being beaten by the security guard.
This was after he was asked to move away from the premises.
The rider explained that he was simply waiting for his order.
However, the situation escalated when the security guard allegedly threatened him with a gun.
As tensions rose, the rider reportedly fought back, leading to a physical confrontation with the restaurant staff.
Despite telling the guard he was fasting and was only waiting for his order, the assault did not stop.
Fellow riders who witnessed the scene gathered in support and reportedly attacked the restaurant staff in retaliation.
Eventually, the conflict was diffused when the restaurant management intervened.
After a discussion between the involved parties, the restaurant reopened later that evening.
The incident enraged netizens, who questioned why the security guard attacked him when he was just waiting for food.
A user said:
“How can someone be so cruel? And that too, in the month of Ramadan!”
There are challenges faced by delivery workers in Karachi, who often find themselves at the mercy of unpredictable situations.
Despite claims of decreasing crime, incidents like these highlight the continued struggles with law and order in the city.
