Bollywood socialite Orhan Awatramani, known as Orry, and seven others have been booked by Jammu and Kashmir Police for allegedly consuming alcohol near the Vaishno Devi shrine.
An FIR has been registered at Katra Police Station against Orry, Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Rashi Dutta, Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Russian national Anastasila Arzamaskina.
A Reasi Police official said: “A special team, under the supervision of SP Katra, Dy SP Katra, and SHO Katra, was formed to investigate the matter.
Notices will be sent to all accused individuals, including Orry, instructing them to join the probe.
Footage on Orry’s Instagram Story showed a gathering and guests enjoying themselves.
But as the camera pans towards Orry, a bottle of alcohol appears to be on the table.
SSP Reasi has reiterated that anyone violating the law, especially by indulging in activities like alcohol or drug consumption at religious sites, will be dealt with strictly.”
The Cottage Suite area in Katra has strict rules prohibiting alcohol and non-vegetarian food due to its proximity to the Vaishno Devi shrine, one of Hinduism’s holiest pilgrimage sites.
Police said: “Taking cognisance of the complaint regarding an issue involving certain guests who were staying at a hotel of Katra and found taking alcohol.
“Katra police has lodged an FIR on March 15 against Orhan Awatramani (Orry), Darshan Singh, Parth Raina, Ritick Singh, Ms Rashi Dutta, Ms Rakshita Bhogal, Shagun Kohli, and Ms Anastasila Arzamaskina, who consumed alcohol in hotel premises despite being told that alcohol and non-vegetarian diet is not allowed inside the Cottage Suite as it is strictly prohibited at such a divine place of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.”
Authorities have condemned the incident, emphasising strict enforcement of regulations at religious sites.
According to a police press release, “a team was constituted under the supervision of SP Katra, Dy SP Katra, and SHO Katra to track the culprits who violated the rule of the land and showed disrespect to the sentiments of the people connected with the faith”.

Public outrage has grown over the alleged incident, with many demanding strict action.
One angry person said:
“Holy shrines aren’t party zones.”
Another stated: “Is an insult to Hindu faith!”
A third claimed: “They are sent to disrupt, desecrate, insult and publish so it can spread and misguide others to do the same elsewhere. For them, this is cool.”
SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh stated: “Sensing the gravity of the matter, strict instructions were passed by SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh, to nab the defaulters, thereby setting an example of no tolerance of any such act of drugs or alcohol at religious places, which hurts the sentiments of the common masses.”
The case has sparked debate about the enforcement of religious site regulations. Authorities have pledged firm action to prevent future violations.
