A newly married bride committed suicide just three months after getting married. The woman allegedly took her own life after finding out about her husband’s affair.
Police found the woman’s body at her rented home in Malad East, Mumbai on Friday, June 14, 2019.
The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Rupa Krishnabahadur Vishvakarma.
The woman’s brother spoke to the police and filed a complaint. Police officers subsequently booked and arrested the groom under abetment charges.
It was heard that Rupa took her own life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her home.
According to the police, the woman’s husband Raj Vishvakarma was inside the house at the time of the incident.
While he was in the bathroom, Rupa managed to lock the door from the outside and hung herself from the ceiling fan.
Raj tried to open the door but discovered that it was locked from the outside. He then called his wife several times but got no response.
Eventually, he was able to break down the door and get out. However, he was shocked to see his wife’s body hanging from the fan.
Raj called a neighbour to help and he then informed the police.
Officers from Dindoshi Police Station arrived at the scene and immediately had Rupa’s body taken to Siddharth Hospital in Mumbai. But doctors declared her dead before admission.
Police officers investigated the suicide and during the early stages, it was discovered that Raj and Rupa were both originally from Nepal.
Raj worked as a dancer at a dance institute in Andheri when he met Rupa. They fell in love and got married in Nepal in March 2019.
The couple later returned to Mumbai and lived together in a rented house.
During the investigation, officers recovered a note which read: “It was my fault and is my mistake.”
Rupa’s brother filed a complaint claiming that Raj began having an affair shortly after he got married.
While Rupa was unaware of the affair, she was worried and suspicious about what her husband was getting up to.
A police official said that when the newly married bride found out about the extra-marital affair, she decided to take her own life.
Police inspector MR Shinde said:
“On the basis of the deceased’s brother’s complaint, we have registered the abetment case against the accused Raj and have booked him and arrested him.”
