"We know such a huge amount can’t be earned that easily."
Nadia Afgan appeared on Something Haute, where she candidly shed light on the darker side of the glamorous world of entertainment.
From delayed payments to the exploitation of young actresses and the competitive pressures in showbiz, she discussed various issues.
Addressing the exploitation of young women in the industry, Nadia shared a striking anecdote.
She recalled working on a drama in Lahore where a young actress played her on-screen daughter-in-law.
The actress, with her modest look and simple attire, initially seemed to have potential but lacked any ostentatious display of wealth.
However, after a three-month break in filming, Nadia was stunned to see a dramatic transformation.
Nadia shared: “She arrived in a luxury car, wore branded clothes and diamond rings, and was accompanied by maids and an assistant.”
The young actress attributed her newfound affluence to modelling gigs, but Nadia was sceptical, remarking:
“We know such a huge amount can’t be earned that easily.”
Nadia also criticised the increasing competition among actors to project an image of success.
She highlighted how many actors live in expensive properties, such as those in Emaar, spending their earnings on rent or mortgages to keep up appearances.
She said: “I tell them to live with their parents instead of getting caught in this cycle of competition.”
One of the persistent issues Nadia emphasised was delayed payments, a problem that has plagued the industry for years.
She revealed that she only works with certain production houses, such as MD Productions and iDreams Productions because they ensure timely payments.
Reflecting on a past experience, Nadia shared that she left a project by Humayun Saeed’s Six Sigma Productions after her payment was delayed.
This was despite her already having worked for six days.
While she clarified that she holds no grudges against Humayun Saeed, she made it clear that she refuses to tolerate such practices.
Delayed payments, as Nadia pointed out, remain a widespread problem, with other actors recently speaking out about their experiences.
Ramsha Khan and Khushhal Khan previously voiced their concerns about the industry’s lack of professionalism regarding payments.
While they refrained from naming specific producers or projects, their statements added to the growing chorus of discontent among artists.
Nadia Afgan’s insights offer a stark reminder of the challenges faced by actors behind the scenes.
