"I think it's very normal for a girl and boy to hang out."
After weeks of speculation, Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has finally commented on the viral images of her and Ranbir Kapoor.
The star broke her silence during the trailer launch of her upcoming film Verna. The event took place on 17th October 2017.
A reporter asked Mahira an inevitable question on the images. The starlet replied:
“It was a personal thing. I’ve learnt from it. Because I am a very careful person otherwise.
As the reporter questioned further, Mahira commented: “These are very personal questions. I think it’s very normal for a girl and boy to hang out. It’s a normal thing.
“Secondly, we’ve all learnt from it and nowadays, [the] media is not only present at events but everywhere. So, I have learnt from it.”
Back in September, the speculation began after images of Mahira and Ranbir smoking in New York went viral. Captured together, it led to fans wondering if anything was brewing between the two.
However, the images sparked a wave of criticism thrown at the Pakistani actress. Not only for hanging out with Ranbir, but they shamed her for wearing a backless dress and smoking.
She received the support of fans, Pakistani stars and Bollywood celebrities alike. Deeming the trolls as hypocritical for not judging Ranbir in the same manner.
The Bollywood actor also came to Mahira’s defence via an official statement. He explained:
“It is very unfair the way she is being judged and spoken about. What is also sad is the inequality in judgment just because she is a woman. I request you to stop the negativity and move on with your beautiful God-gifted lives.”
Now that Mahira has broken her silence, we’re sure the actress will concentrate more on Verna. With the trailer available to watch, it shows her in a thrilling new role.
Set to release on 17th November, the Pakistani actress faces a busy month of promotions. Perhaps then, this acts as the first and last time she’ll comment on the images.
