“The next time you will kill me."

Asim Hasan, aged 33, of London, was jailed for life for stabbing his wife 36 times at their home in Canning Town.

The Old Bailey heard that Aaisha Hasan secretly recorded her husband’s violent abuse on her phone.

The couple rowed over money and Hasan’s behaviour. During his campaign of abuse, he accused his wife of having an affair.

But in court, prosecutor Joel Smith revealed that Hasan was the one looking to have an affair, contacting a woman on a Muslim dating site days before his wife’s death.

Aaisha was so scared of her husband that she began recording him on her phone and shared her fears with friends on WhatsApp.

In a folder on her phone labelled ‘Hidden’, Aaisha stored images, including of a black eye and facial cuts, taken after Hasan was violent in February and April 2022, and 11 days before her death.

On May 9, Aaisha sent a WhatsApp message to friends, saying “he would have killed me” if they had been alone in the house.

She wrote: “I don’t want to call the police on him coz this can get him into serious trouble. I just want him out the house now. I don’t feel safe.”

The next day, Hasan continued to accuse her of “cheating” despite her repeated denials, according to one recording.

One neighbour alerted police but the matter was not taken further because Aaisha appeared well and made no complaint.

In another recording, Aaisha claimed her husband hit her and said:

“The next time you will kill me. The next time you will kill me, I don’t want that.”

But on May 19, 2022, Hasan called 999 and told the operator:

“I just stabbed my wife.”

Aaisha suffered 36 wounds in the “ferocious and really quite savage attack”.

Mr Smith said one stab was inflicted with such force it “cut a wedge of bone” from her skull.

Police and paramedics arrived at their home to find Aaisha lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood and she was pronounced dead at 7:20 am.

A knife, which Hasan allegedly used, was found on the cooker.

After his arrest, Hasan said:

“I am guilty and you can charge me.”

Hasan accepted that he stabbed his wife but claimed that he did not intend to harm her. But it took just half an hour for the jury to convict him of murder.

Judge Anthony Leonard told Hasan: “You have been convicted of murder. The sentence will be one of life imprisonment.”

Hasan will serve a minimum of 21 years in prison.
