Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times by an intruder, who reportedly attempted to burgle his Mumbai home.
The incident took place at around 2:30 am on January 16, 2025.
Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital.
Dr Niraj Uttamani said the actor underwent neurosurgery and plastic surgery. He added that Saif is out of danger now.
Hospital staff said they have repaired leaking spinal fluid after Saif suffered a knife wound to his spine.
Saif also suffered two deep wounds on his left hand and another on his neck.
In a statement, Saif’s team said:
“Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger.
“He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress.
“All family members are safe and the police is investigating the incident.
“We would like to thank Dr Niraj Uttamani, Dr Nitin Dange, Dr Leena Jain and the team at Lilavati hospital.
“Thank you to all his fans and well-wishers for their prayers and thoughts during this time.”
A maid at the Bandra property was also attacked and is currently receiving treatment.
Police believe it was an attempted burglary but further inquiries are underway to determine what really happened.
Police have launched an investigation and efforts are being made to locate the suspect.
According to police, the suspect entered the property from an adjacent building and jumped the wall to enter the apartment, sneaking in while Saif was sleeping.
After hearing the confrontation with the maid, it was reported that Saif Ali Khan was helping his family down the stairs to get out of the property.
He was stabbed when he put himself in between the intruder and his family.
The perpetrator then fled the scene.
As part of the investigation, police are considering the possibility of an inside job and are questioning three staff members.
Mumbai’s Crime Branch and Mumbai Police have formed 15 teams to search for the suspect.
A team is scanning the CCTV footage for clues. Three teams have left for different areas of Mumbai. Another team have gone out of Mumbai to search for the suspect.
Kareena Kapoor’s team also shared a statement, adding that the family is fine.
It read: “There was an attempted burglary at Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan’s residence last night.
“Saif had an injury on his arm for which he is in hospital, undergoing a procedure.”
“The rest of the family is doing fine. We request media and fans to be patient and not speculate any further as the Police are already doing their due investigations. Thank you all for your concern.”
Dr Niraj Uttamani said: “Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an unidentified person at his Bandra home and was brought into the hospital around 3:30 am.”
Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and their two children recently returned to Mumbai after spending the New Year in Switzerland.
