The Metropolitan Police are still hunting for a suspect three months after a “horrific” incident in London saw a man stabbed up to 19 times with a screwdriver.

Shortly after 9 pm on August 19, 2024, officers were called to Elis Way after receiving reports of an assault.

Police arrived at the scene to find a man in his 30s, who had been stabbed in the head, abdomen and back with a screwdriver.

After being treated in hospital, the victim is now left with life-changing injuries following the attack.

The victim, Tom Savage, was hospitalised for six weeks after the unprovoked attack. He had to have major surgery to remove his sinus as the weapon went through bits of his skull.

On the night of the attack, Tom said he was walking his dog when a man approached him and pulled up his shirt, revealing a screwdriver. Tom tried to run away but the guy knocked him over.

He told MyLondon: “I felt a smack in the back of my head and from that point on I don’t remember feeling any pain from the whole thing – I felt numb.

“I managed to shout for help a couple of times, but then the next thing I know he threw me on the floor – I lost all feeling from my chest down and I think that’s probably when he stabbed me in the spine.”

Doctors told Tom it would take him up to two years to recover from his injuries but it is uncertain what injuries he will have for life.

Three months on from the attack, the attacker remains on the loose.

The suspect was last seen on the night of the assault as they got off of the Elizabeth Line at Whitechapel.

Now, the police are urging witnesses to come forward to help in their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Simon Wheeler, from the local CID, said: “We continue to investigate this horrific assault and are urgently appealing to the public to help.

“We are in regular contact with the victim and are examining every avenue of opportunity to find the person responsible and bring him to justice.

“We urge anyone with information to please call 101 quoting CAD 7524/19Aug or you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
