“I really like, suppressed that part of myself."
As Love Island 2026 gets closer, a lot of attention is already on Jasmine Muller and an old clip of her discussing her mixed-race identity has resurfaced.
The fashion business owner was introduced as one of the show’s standout “cool girl” contestants.
Soon after, Love Island fans began digging into her past.
Originally from Dubai but now living in London, Jasmine has Indian, Danish, American, East African and Iranian heritage.
In an old podcast interview, Jasmine spoke candidly about her childhood experiences growing up mixed race and her complicated relationship with her mother’s heritage.
She revealed: “As a kid, racist slurs weren’t what upset me. It was the fact that I was seen as brown.
“I really like, suppressed that part of myself.
“I felt like it was quite, I hate to say it but I felt really embarrassed of it, especially because I went to an international school with lots of white kids.
“And because I was British, I was like, yeah, I’m Danish and I’m British and I’m American. And I would never talk about my mom’s side.”

The discussion later turned toward Jasmine’s family background and how it shaped her sense of identity.
The host said: “It’s kind of actually super interesting that even though you were raised by your mom primarily, that you almost rejected that side of it.”
Jasmine replied: “Yeah, I mean, it was hard, but also, like, my dad comes from a very, I guess, a very, like, privileged background, like, very well-educated, and then my mother comes from, like, a very difficult background, where she was born in Africa, her mother was born in Africa, they came here in the war as refugees, and I always felt like that was, like, it made me feel like, oh, we’re less than.”
The resurfaced clip divided opinion.

Criticising her comments, one said: “I don’t get why you can’t process your racial identity, it’s very important and unique person to person. Self-acceptance is paramount.”
However, many stated she was merely discussing her personal experience and hit at those claiming Jasmine is facing backlash.
One person wrote:
“She’s talking about her own experience, what’s the issue exactly?”
Another said: “She said nothing wrong lol it’s just her experience growing up.”
In addition to her past comments resurfacing, Jasmine’s old relationships have also hit headlines ahead of Love Island 2026.
The Sun reported that she previously dated former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.
