The Lahore High Court has summoned the woman who accused former Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam of sexual assault.

She accused the cricketer of rape, harassment, blackmail and financial exploitation.

The accusations date back to a claim that Azam promised to marry the petitioner in 2010 but failed to honour his promise.

Justice Asjad Javed Ghural directed the investigation officer to record the woman’s statement and present her during the next hearing.

The judge further remarked that the case should be dismissed if the petitioner no longer wished to pursue it.

Babar Azam’s lawyer called the allegations baseless and said they were intended to tarnish the cricketer’s reputation.

Azam has denied all accusations, calling them “false and malicious”.

However, the petitioner claimed she and Babar Azam were in a long-term relationship, during which she became pregnant.

According to her, Azam persuaded her to undergo an abortion, promising that they would marry later.

She submitted medical documents to the court to support her claims.

The petitioner alleged that after Azam rose to fame as a cricket star, he ignored her and failed to fulfil his promise of marriage.

When she initially sought to file an FIR for blackmail and fornication in 2020, she alleged that police were unwilling to register her complaint.

The case gained public attention when she held a press conference and detailed her allegations.

The petitioner later retracted her statements, publicly denying any relationship with Azam.

A video surfaced of her signing an agreement, which her lawyer read aloud, stating that her allegations were fake.

It said that they were fabricated under the influence of friends pretending to be media personnel.

However, she later claimed she had been coerced into the retraction after yet another promise of marriage.

The woman filed the case in 2021, alleging that she was misled and betrayed by Babar Azam.

The woman also claimed that she supported Babar’s career financially. However, after he got success and fame, he started ignoring her.

This legal battle has been ongoing since 2021, with the case remaining unresolved due to multiple hearings being postponed.

The court is expected to provide further direction as it reviews the evidence and testimonies presented in the next hearing.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam is reportedly gearing up for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

According to media reports, he is likely to open alongside Fakhar Zaman.
