"we will be unable to release our film"

It has been announced that Laal Singh Chaddha has been postponed until 2022.

The Aamir Khan film was initially set to release on December 25, 2020. But due to India’s Covid-19 crisis, the release was pushed back until Christmas 2021.

In a statement on Instagram, Aamir Khan Productions said that the film will now release on Valentine’s Day 2022.

The announcement comes just a day after Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray stated that all cinemas in the state will be allowed to open from October 22, 2021.

The statement read: “We welcome the decision of the administration to allow cinemas to re-open from 22nd Oct.

“Due to the delays faced as a result of the pandemic, we will be unable to release our film, Laal Singh Chaddha, this Christmas.

“We will now be releasing Laal Singh Chaddha on Valentine’s Day 2022.”

Laal Singh Chaddha also stars Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya.

The film is a Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. The original film starred Tom Hanks in the lead.

It has been a much-anticipated film because it will be Aamir Khan’s first release after Thugs of Hindostan in 2018.

With Laal Singh Chaddha delayed until February 2022, the Christmas weekend will now be taken over by Ranveer Singh’s sports drama ’83.

Ranveer confirmed the news on Instagram. He wrote:

“It’s time. ’83 in cinemas this Christmas. Releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.”

The film also stars Ranveer’s wife Deepika Padukone, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jatin Sarna among others.

The film was initially set to release in April 2020.

However, India’s nationwide lockdown prevented that from happening.

’83 was then delayed until June 2021. But India’s Covid-19 second wave forced the film to be postponed indefinitely.

Theatres were shut as a result. While cinemas were shut, several Bollywood blockbusters were released on streaming platforms instead.

’83 ended up being one of the first Bollywood films whose makers officially announced that they will release it in cinemas after lockdown.

Ranveer will also appear in Sooryavanshi, set to release in November 2021.

The film is led by Akshay Kumar and will also star Ajay Devgn, reprising his role as Singham.

Directed by Rohit Shetty and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the team announced that the cop-drama will release on Diwali.
