British rappers Krept & Konan are set to open the UK’s first ‘inclusive’ supermarket, selling Halal and world foods in a bid to better serve the people of South London.

Saveways Supermarket will open on February 1, 2025, in the duo’s hometown of Croydon on Beddington Lane.

The supermarket was created in partnership with entrepreneur Kaysor Ali and will address a long-standing gap in the local grocery market, focusing on customers from Black, Asian, and mixed ethnic backgrounds.

The 2021 UK Census reported over 257,000 residents of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds across Croydon and Sutton, and this figure has grown.

However, these communities are under-served by smaller food shops that “often lack in product variety, hygiene standards, parking and fair pricing”.

Saveways will specialise in world foods and Halal produce to cater to the rich diversity of Croydon and its surrounding areas.

It will feature a Halal meat and poultry counter, fresh and frozen exotic fish, a bakery, fruit and vegetables, food from around the world and household essentials, including hair and beauty products.

Saveways will also sell foods from global brands such as McCain and Heinz and has also secured a UK distribution deal with Martin’s potato rolls from the US.

The supermarket will provide parking for over 30 vehicles and create 30 new jobs.

Equipped with NCR self-serve kiosks, click-and-collect services and partnerships with Uber Eats and Deliveroo, Saveways is set to redefine convenience for under-served communities.

On their venture, Krept & Konan said: “Our vision for Saveways is more than a market.

“We wanted to bring together under one roof everything the Black, Asian, and ethnic communities in South London need.

“We wanted to offer more than just groceries – we sought to provide a diverse range of world foods. We believe that high-quality, diverse food should never be a luxury.

“We also focused on creating a space that’s clean, convenient, and welcoming to everyone who walks through our doors.

“South London holds a special place in our hearts — it’s where we grew up and where our music journey began. As artists and entrepreneurs, we feel a deep responsibility to give back to the community that shaped us.

“We hope to contribute to unity, progress, and a stronger sense of belonging for marginalised communities.”

“This is just the beginning and we look forward to serving South London in more unique ways for years to come.”

Kaysor Ali added: “Together, we’ve combined our skills, networks, and passion to create a supermarket experience that not only serves the community but sets a new standard for quality, inclusivity, and excellence in the UK food retail space.

“This partnership has allowed Saveways to become more than just a supermarket, it’s a statement of culture, unity, and progress for our communities.”
