The film premieres in the UK on October 1, 2025. Its worldwide release will be on October 2.
The trailer offers audiences a glimpse into the epic mythological world of Kantara: Chapter 1.
Produced by Vijay Kiragandur, the film is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara.
Written by Rishab Shetty, Anirudh Mahesh and Shanil Guru, the story transports audiences to the 4th Century AD, exploring the sacred origins of Kantara and Kaadubettu Shiva during the Kadamba dynasty.
This prequel delves deeper into the mythology, conflicts and divine interventions that shaped the original film.
The makers promise breathtaking action sequences and stirring music, ensuring an immersive cinematic experience.
Kantara: Chapter 1 is designed to stand on its own.
New and returning audiences will be able to witness the foundations of the legend while anticipating the franchise’s future.
The ensemble cast is led by Rishab Shetty, joined by Gulshan Devaiah, Jayaram and Rukmini Vasanth.
Music is composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath with cinematography by Arvind S Kashyap. Hombale Films aims to combine mythological themes with modern cinematic techniques, creating what it describes as a “visual spectacle”.
Global audiences are also being targeted through music.
The trailer features a song by Diljit Dosanjh. His collaboration with South Indian cinema has already become a talking point online, furthering the film’s global appeal.
The multilingual release highlights the filmmakers’ ambition to connect with audiences far beyond regional borders.
Director Rishab Shetty has already cemented himself as a cultural force with the success of Kantara in 2022, which won National Awards for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Actor.
The film was streamed over 10 billion times globally and generated more than 700 million online mentions. Its digital success became a benchmark in film marketing, with Kantara evolving into what critics described as a cultural and digital phenomenon.
Associate Vice President at Laughing Water Entertainment, Sunil Kumar Ramachandra, said:
