"She will always be remembered."
Kangana Ranaut and her family recently endured a shock when the actress’s grandmother, Indrani Thakur, passed away.
On her Instagram Story, Kangana announced the sad news via a series of photographs.
While the exact age of her grandmother was not disclosed, Kangana revealed that she was a centenarian.
Kangana Ranaut wrote: “My Naniji, Indrani Thakur Ji, has died. The whole family is in shock. Please pray for us.
“My Nani was a marvellous lady. She had five children.
“Nana Ji was not well off, yet she ensured that each one of her children got a high education in good institutes and insisted that even her married daughters should work and have a career of their own.
“Even her daughters got government jobs – a rare feat in those days.
“All of her five children, including women, had their own careers. She was very proud of the careers of her children.
“We owe so much to our Naniji. She was five feet and eight inches tall – very rare for a mountain woman.
“I got her height and her health and metabolism.
“My Naniji was so healthy and lively that though she was above 100 years old, she did all her work by herself.”
Kangana Ranaut went on to state the negative changes in her grandmother’s health.
She continued: “A few days ago, she was cleaning her room and got a brain stroke.
“This made her bedridden, and it was beyond painful to see her in that condition.
“She lived a wonderful life and became such an inspiration for all of us.
“She will always be in our DNA and in our appearances, and she will always be remembered.”
On the work front, Kangana will next be seen in her directorial, Emergency, where she will play Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The film was originally scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024.
However, it was unable to obtain a certificate from the censors.
On October 17, 2024, Kangana announced that her film had finally been cleared. However, a new release date is yet to be announced.
Anupam Kher, who also stars in Emergency addressed the controversy and said:
“Kangana has made a brilliant film. Ups and downs do happen, but when the film will be released, people will forget all the controversies.”
Emergency also features Shreyas Talpade, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, and Milind Soman.
