Renowned Bollywood actress, writer, and social justice advocate Kalki Koechlin was named Goldsmiths, University of London’s newest Honorary Fellow during a degree convocation ceremony in London.

This accolade recognises her significant contributions to the arts and her advocacy for social justice.

A Goldsmiths alumni, Kalki pursued her education at the university before embarking on a flourishing career in theatre and film.

She gained widespread acclaim with her debut film Dev.D, which earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Since then, she has delivered exceptional performances in critically acclaimed works like Margarita with a Straw and Gully Boy.

On stage, her creative prowess as a writer and performer has garnered accolades, including the prestigious MetroPlus Playwright Award for her contributions to theatre.

In 2018, Kalki Koechlin was honoured with the Chevalier dans L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, a testament to her profound impact on arts and culture on a global scale.

The celebrations at Goldsmiths will continue until January 17, 2025, with other notable figures receiving Honorary Fellowships.

Acclaimed author Evie Wyld, whose literary contributions include five critically praised novels, and Caleb Azumah Nelson, whose debut novel Open Water has established him as a powerful voice in contemporary literature, are among those being honoured.

Both have deep ties to the local South East London community, further enriching the cultural fabric of the area.

On the work front, Kalki Koechlin is set to make her debut in Tamil cinema with Nesippaya, where she plays a lawyer.
