"He has missed more than 50 matches due to injury.”

A clip of cricketer Jasprit Bumrah went viral on X after he called himself the fittest player on the Indian team.

During a press conference, the fast bowler was asked:

“Who is the fittest of all in the Indian team?”

Bumrah replied: “I know the answer that you’re searching for, but I would like to say my name.”

The name Bumrah was referring to was Virat Kohli, who has excelled over the years and is a favourite among fans.

Kohli has also led the fitness revolution among the Indian cricket team over his tenure.

Many experts worldwide have also hailed Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul as the fittest, so Bumrah’s comments have shocked many.

Bumrah added that he has been playing for a while: “You know, being a fast bowler and playing in this country in this heat takes a lot of requirements.

“So, I’ll always promote fast bowlers and take a fast bowler’s name.”

Jasprit Bumrah’s comments led to him being heavily criticised.

One said: “This much arrogance after his 1st good performance in ICC knockouts??

“This choker choked in every tournament till 2023. He has missed more than 50 matches due to injury.”

Another said: “Such a narcissist mf, even in other interviews. Barely plays Tests in Asian heat, rare 1-2 good knockout outings.

“Injured 1/3 part of his career, missed out on an ICC tournament because of injury.”

Others wondered why Bumrah called himself the “fittest” given his injury history.

On the other hand, some defended Bumrah’s comments as one said:

“I am surprised at Kohlisons’ confidence. Bumrah literally saved Kohli’s whole T20 Legacy with that spell.”

“Otherwise, people would have remembered Kohli only for 48 balls 50 in the final and India’s loss, so have some shame and respect Bumrah.”

Another defender highlighted: “There is a thin line between being selfish and having fun with yourself/being sarcastic.

“Without any doubt, Jasprit Bumrah is one of the finest bowlers of the Indian cricket team. Injury is the part of the game where anyone can face these things.”

After saving India in the final with a bowling masterclass, Bumrah was named Player of the Tournament in the 2024 T20 World Cup, and India also took away the trophy.

Following the T20 World Cup performance and a month-long break, Jasprit Bumrah has been selected for the opening India vs Bangladesh Test, which begins on September 19, 2024, in Chennai.

This will test all the players’ endurance in Chennai’s sweltering heat.
