Is a Sequel to ‘Animal’ on the Way?

‘Animal’ may have only hit the screens recently, but speculations are already rife about a possible sequel to the film.

Animal' to have Biggest US Release f

it may star Ranbir in a double role

The hotly anticipated Animal finally hit cinemas on December 1, 2023.

Written and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal starred Ranbir Kapoor as the anti-hero Ranvijay ‘Vijay’ Singh.

The film also featured Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol and Rashmika Mandanna.

A movie infused with a thirst for revenge, violent action and a damaged son, Animal tells the story of Vijay.

He sets out on a brutal mission to find the assailants who attempted to kill his father Balbir Singh.

At a lengthy run time of over 200 minutes, Animal has emerged as one of the longest Bollywood films ever made.

At the end of the film, a post-credits scene reveals Ranbir as Aziz Haque.

Aziz is made to look like Vijay’s doppelganger.

An unhinged Aziz turns and smiles at Zoya (Tripti Dimri), as the blood of his victim smears his face.

A super then appears on the screen which says: “Animal Park… come, visit soon.”

The caption suggested there will be a sequel to the film and that it will be titled Animal Park.

It is also rumoured that it may star Ranbir in a double role, as both Vijay and Aziz.

Discussing Animal, Ranbir revealed an interesting anecdote about his reaction to the script.

The superstar said: “When [Sandeep] finished the narration, I couldn’t say anything.

“I went straight into my bathroom and I was looking at myself in the mirror.

“I was thinking, ‘What has he narrated? Will I be able to do this or not’?”

Animal has had a fantastic start at the box office. In the first two days of its release, it earned over Rs. 115 crore (£11 million).

The film thus emerged as Ranbir’s highest opener.

While audiences seem to be flocking to cinemas in droves to watch the action spectacle, the film has divided critics.

Some did not appreciate the film’s apparent misogyny.

Reviewing the film, Anwesha Madhukaiya from Business Today wrote:

“The other assault on any thinking person is the unparalleled misogyny.

“If you thought Kabir Singh was bad, oh boy, you are in for a rude surprise.”

“Women in this world weep quietly, have no choice and no voice, no agency, are slapped and ridiculed and controlled by the gun-slinging, profanity-spewing, out of control gang of men.

“The women are reduced to timid caricatures whose most important work is to produce babies.”

However, what could not be ignored was Ranbir’s masterful performance.

Anwesha continued: “Kapoor is an ace actor who emotes rage, love, annoyance, guilt without any inhibition.”

Given the mass hysteria Animal has generated, a sequel to the film is an interesting and exciting prospect.
