A 24-year-old Indian woman has gone missing in the United States just days after arriving for what was believed to be an arranged marriage, authorities in New Jersey have confirmed.

Simran Simran arrived from India on June 20, 2025.

According to Lindenwold Police, who began investigating the case on Wednesday, surveillance footage shows her looking at her phone and seemingly waiting for someone.

Officers said she did not appear to be in distress.

Investigators believe Simran travelled to the US for an arranged marriage, but also noted that “it was also possible she had no intention to marry, and merely wanted a free trip to America”.

Simran was last seen wearing grey jogging bottoms, a white T-shirt, black flip-flops, and small diamond-studded earrings.

She is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing around 150 pounds, and has a small scar on the left side of her forehead.

Police said she has no relatives in the United States and does not speak English.

Her phone only functions over Wi-Fi, making contact more difficult. Attempts to reach her family in India have also failed so far.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Lindenwold Police Detective Joe Tomasetti.

This case comes just months after another high-profile disappearance involving a young Indian national in a foreign country.

Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old student at the University of Pittsburgh, went missing in March while on holiday in the Dominican Republic.

Sudiksha was last seen on March 6 at the Riu Republic Resort in Punta Cana.

A massive search was launched, and days later, her parents said:

“They [authorities] believe she drowned during her spring break in the Dominican Republic.”

Her parents said foul play was involved and suggested that their daughter may have been abducted.

Joshua Riibe, a 22-year-old student at St Cloud University in Minnesota, was the last known person to see her.

He was held for questioning but later released. Judge Edwin Rijo later ruled that Riibe, who remains a witness in the case, should face no restrictions under Dominican law.

Both disappearances have sparked concern in the Indian diaspora community and raised questions about the safety of young Indian travellers abroad.
