Sarmad Khoosat received widespread acclaim when his name was added to the esteemed Sitar-e-Imtiaz list in August 2023.

However, there was a surprising turn of events.

On March 21, 2024, Sarmad took to Instagram to reveal that his name had been inexplicably removed from the prestigious list.

This happened just days before the official announcement of the awards on March 23. This is a day marked by the commemoration of top achievements in the country.

Expressing his bewilderment and disappointment, the actor and director lamented the sudden disappearance of his name from the list.

He explained that it had brought on numerous congratulations from both official and unofficial sources back in August 2023.

He wrote: “Sorry please take your Mubaraks back… my name has vanished from ‘the 14th August 23 list’ of presidential awards that everyone ‘officially’ and unofficially congratulated me for.”

This unexpected development has left Sarmad and his followers questioning the rationale behind striking his name off the list.

Sarmad’s inclusion in the August 2023 list placed him among a cohort of distinguished individuals in the entertainment industry. They were singled out for the coveted award.

Notable figures such as Adnan Siddiqui, Zubaida (Naghma), and Hassan Askari were also recognised for their contributions to acting and hosting.

Additionally, Hassan Askari was acknowledged for his excellence in film direction.

Luminaries like Naseer Baig Mirza (writer, producer) and Ajab Khan (calligrapher, painter) were honoured for their achievements in their respective fields.

Baqir Abbas (flute player) was also recognised for his exceptional contributions.

Furthermore, the prestigious Pride of Performance award was conferred upon renowned Grammy winner Arooj Aftab.

This was for her exemplary excellence in the realms of art and music.

However, the sudden removal of Sarmad Khoosat’s name from the list has cast uncertainty over the fate of these celebrated figures.

It has also raised questions about their anticipated inclusion in the much-awaited announcement.

As the nation eagerly awaits the official unveiling of the awards on March 23, speculation abounds.

Sarmad Khoosat’s supporters stand by him, rallying behind him as he navigates this unforeseen twist in his illustrious career.

A user wrote: “It’s Pakistan, anything can happen.”

Another added: “Don’t worry Sarmad, you don’t need an award to be loved by us.”

One said: “How disappointing. How can they take away a man’s joy like this.”
