"Four to five men were standing in the alley and jumped into the auto."
A 32-year-old Indian man was allegedly beaten and sexually assaulted by a group of men in Panchavati, Maharashtra. The perpetrators inserted a beer bottle and toothpicks into his rectum.
The man had gone to Nashik to invite his friend to his wedding when a group of men ambushed him.
They beat him up before sexually assaulting him with a beer bottle and toothpicks. Following the attack, the man managed to flee the scene and looked for safety.
He told the police about his ordeal and they have registered a complaint against the unidentified suspects and are investigating the matter.
The man is a resident of Kottayam district and works as a medical educator. He is set to get married in July 2019 and decided to go to Nashik to invite his friends to the wedding.
The man spoke about the violent assault. He explained:
“I reached Nashik on 4th June around 10 pm and as soon as I got down, I went to Hotel Vaibhav, where I checked in.
“I went to the Bhadrakali area for dinner at around 11 pm and took an auto on my way back to the hotel.
“When the auto reached Damodar Theatre, the auto driver stopped the vehicle in the middle of the road. Four to five men were standing in the alley and jumped into the auto.”
The Indian man tried to fight back but stopped after one of the men brandished a knife and told him to be quiet.
They then drove the vehicle to the Panchavati area where they started drinking. The men then robbed the victim and beat him.
“They snatched my cellphone and Rs. 10,000 (£113) from my wallet.”
Two of the men grabbed the victim and held him down. They then took off his trousers and inserted a beer bottle into his rectum followed by toothpicks.
The man was eventually able to escape the area and took refuge in a temple.
He added: “It was around 2:30 am when an old man near the temple gave me a sheet to cover myself. I spent the night at the temple and immediately rushed to the Bhadrakali police station to register a complaint.”
When he told the police, the man was taken to hospital and doctors confirmed that there were signs that he had been sexually assaulted.
Senior Inspector at Bhadrakali Police Station Mangalsingh Suryawanshi said:
“As soon as we received the complaint, we took the victim for a medical examination and found marks of abuse.”
“We have registered a case against the accused under IPC 367 (wrongful confinement) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt).”
