In a horrific incident, a 40-year-old Indian man used an axe to murder his wife before attacking his in-laws, injuring them.

The violence happened in the district of Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

Police officers have said that the suspect was identified as Nisar Qureshi.

It was reported that Qureshi had gone to his in-law’s house with his wife.

However, an argument broke out between Qureshi and his 35-year-old wife Afsari.

The row became heated to the point that the Indian man grabbed an axe and attacked his wife, killing her.

Afsari’s sister and mother tried to help but they were also attacked by Qureshi. Both suffered injuries.

After the violent attack, Qureshi attempted to flee when the situation took a horrific turn.

Many of the locals had heard screams coming from the house and saw Qureshi holding an axe when he walked out.

They grabbed the man when he tried to escape.

The mob then beat him to death. During the beating, some of the group filmed the attack and shared it on social media.

The footage showed a man, almost motionless on the ground while men take turns to beat him with sticks.

Following the assault, the mob left Qureshi where he later died of his injuries.

The police heard about the assault through the video and went to the scene. They took Qureshi’s body for a post-mortem.

The examination revealed that Qureshi had suffered severe injuries to his head and mouth. The doctor also found that a number of his bones were fractured.

Gazipur Station House Officer Sandeep Tiwari explained that Qureshi’s brother Ishfaq filed a complaint against approximately 100 people. A case was later registered.

SHO Tiwari added that Ishfaq handed officers a video of the mob attack.

When questioning locals, one villager alleged that after killing his wife and attacking his in-laws, Qureshi had threatened to set the village alight by blowing up the gas cylinder at his in-law’s house.

The villager claimed: “He suddenly ran out with an axe. The public dispersed. After that, I don’t know what happened. I was on the roof.”

Fatehpur Superintendent of Police Prashant Verma explained that three people were arrested after they were identified in the video.

India Today reported that he said that search was on for others and strict action would be taken against those involved in the mob assault.

Following Superintendent Verma’s statement, two more men were arrested in connection with the murder.

The five suspects were identified as Osama, Abdul Qureishi, Salman, Rafiq and Shahnawaz. According to police, they were related to Afsari.

While the five men remain in custody, efforts were being made to identify the others involved.
