it was also alleged that he filmed the rape.
A police investigation is underway after an Indian girl was allegedly raped by a Coronavirus patient.
The shocking attack on the 14-year-old happened in a bathroom in India’s largest quarantine centre while his friend stood guard.
Both men and the victim had all tested positive for Coronavirus. They had shown mild symptoms.
As a result, they were in quarantine at India’s largest Covid-19 centre, in Delhi.
The Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre and Hospital was opened for people with moderate symptoms who cannot self-isolate at home, it is mainly for poor families who share one-room apartments.
It was reported that the rape took place on July 15, 2020, at the 10,000-bed facility.
According to police, a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with rape while the accomplice was also arrested.
It was confirmed that the accomplice stood guard but it was also alleged that he filmed the rape.
Both men were arrested on July 22, 2020, when tests revealed that they were negative.
It is believed the girl had only been at the quarantine centre for approximately one week.
The matter came to light after the Indian girl told a relative at the centre what had happened. The police were subsequently informed.
Senior police official Parvinder Singh said:
“The accused have been arrested and sent to judicial custody but will remain in institutional care until they recover from the infection.”
Officer Singh added that the girl was taken to another hospital and the two men were taken to a different location where they remain in custody.
Police are continuing with their investigation.
The centre is run by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police but only 100 of the 1,000 allocated officers were on duty when the girl was raped.
The authorities have said that numbers were reduced because only 250 of the beds in the facility were occupied.
According to data, India has had over 1.2 million confirmed cases of Coronavirus with more than 30,000 deaths.
This comes after a doctor in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on July 22 after being charged with molesting and attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman who was recovering in an isolation ward.
It was reported that 30-year-old Dr Tufail Ahmad was arrested at a hotel where he had quarantined himself after completing his duty in the isolation ward.
The victim claims Dr Ahmad touched her inappropriately on July 21, only a day after she had been admitted to the hospital.
