India has defeated Pakistan in a one-sided match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Delivering a magnificent performance in the high-energy match,  India completed their third consecutive win so far in this year’s World Cup.

The exciting match took place on 2nd July 2017. Held at the County Ground in Derby, many fans from both sides had high hopes for their team’s victory.

However, India thrashed Pakistan by 95 runs. Indi scored 169/9 in 50 overs, while Pakistan were all out below 100 (74) in 38.1 overs.

India opted to bat first in this high-pressure match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Despite opener Smriti Mandhan (2) and two other frontline batsmen failing to get into double figures, India managed to put up a fighting total of 169. They felt this was enough to trouble the Green Team.

Opener Poonam Raut was top scorer with 47. Wicketkeeper Sushma Verma contributed a valuable cameo of 33 off thirty-five balls. Verma’s innings included three 4s and one 6.

Ekta Bisht was the standout player and bowler for her dazzling performance. She delivered one of the best bowling figures in the Women’s World Cup history by claiming 5/18. Bisht also managed to take the key scalps of Ayesha Zafar (1), Sidra Nawaz (0) and Iram Javed (0) in the early stages.

From their on Pakistan could not recover, as they continued to lose more wickets at regular intervals. Indian medium pace Jhulan Goswami took the prize wicket of Javeria Khan (6). Pakistan had lost half of its side by the 14th over, as they were reeling on 5-24.

All of the team’s players remaining struggled to score heavily. In the end, Pakistan’s Nahida Khan and Sana Mir were the only two players to land double-figure scores, hitting 23 and  29 respectively.

Unfortunately, this could not match up to India’s score. Thus the Women in Blue won the match quite convincingly by 95 runs.

Following India’ magnificent win, many Bollywood stars went on Twitter to congratulate the team. Sonakshi Sinha, in particular, praised the team for their efforts and expressing her huge pride for them. She said:

“Show em all how its done ladies … #likeagirl you make us SO proud! [sic]”

In addition, Anil Kapoor congratulated the team and hoped many girls would feel inspired by their victory to pursue their dreams.

He added: “So proud of these women! #ICCWomensWorldCup2017 .. Hope this picture inspires and empowers all our girls to excel in any field they choose!”

Other Bollywood figures such as Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor also congratulated the team on their win:

As this hails as India’s third consecutive win, it also marks Pakistan’s third consecutive loss in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.

Nevertheless, the two teams will now look ahead to their next matches in the cricket championship. Both scheduled for 5th July 2017, India will face against Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Pakistan will go head-to-head with Australia.

With India now running on high energy from their latest victory, many will hope they can continue to deliver stellar performances. Whether Pakistan can recover from their disappointing loss in the recent match remains to be seen.
