Gunday

“Kill Dil is a film about the tricks the heart plays. Ranveer is pukka for the male lead.”

With 2013 being an undeniable success for Indian cinema, 2014 has some very big expectations in store from movie lovers and critics alike.

So which films of 2014 are the ones to look out for, and which of your favourite stars are hitting the big screen this year?

DESIblitz takes a look at the next 12 months and we pick out our favourite actors and actresses whose films you definitely don’t want to miss in 2014.

Salman Khan

Beginning of course with the Khan of the moment; Salman is geared up for his big release Jai Ho on January 24, 2014. Initially named Mental, the Bollywood action drama has been directed and co-produced by Sohail Khan.

Fans of Salman can also expect another release this year in the form of Kick, which co-stars Jacqueline Fernandez. Close friend of Salman’s, Sajid Nadiadwala also makes his debut in the director’s seat. The film has been rumoured for an early summer release, July 27, 2014.

Shahrukh Khan

SRK fans can only expect one cinema outing this year for King Khan, but if last year’s Chennai Express is anything to go by, we are most definitely in for a treat. Keeping it in his lucky Bollywood family, the film Happy New Year, is directed by close friend Farah Khan and produced by wife Gauri.

Films of 2014

Shahrukh has again roped in Deepika Padukone who will no doubt add her magical hit-making touch to the venture which also features Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani and Sonu Sood. Happy New Year releases on October 23, 2014.

Aamir Khan

Last but certainly not the least Khan is Aamir who is still reaping the success of his history-making Dhoom 3 blockbuster from December 2013. His only release this year is in the form of P.K. (or Peekay) which sees the bubbly Anushka Sharma as his co-star.

Known for his unconventional choices, P.K. is a political satire that has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Aamir and Rajkumar have already proved their success as a collaborative duo following 3 Idiots (2009) which quickly became one of the highest grossing Hindi films. The film also sees Sanjay Dutt in a supporting role and P.K. will release on June 6, 2014.

Deepika Padukone

Now onto the beautiful leading actresses of B-town, Deepika Padukone. Following four blockbuster hits in 2013, Deepika is hot stuff at the moment.

Her midas touch has meant that nearly every director and producer will want to sign her up for any new venture. And the never-ending talent of Deepika also means that she can offer an award-winning performance with her eyes closed.

Films of 2014

In 2014, the glamourous actress will feature in Kochadaiiyaan, alongside Tamil superstar, Rajinikanth. The Tamil film is a 3D motion capture animated feature and a historical period film.

Next, Deepika plays the lead in Finding Fanny Fernandes which has been described as an ‘English Konkani satirical film’. It co-stars Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah and Dimple Kapadia. It follows 5 Goans who get lost on a road trip. The film will release on July 4, 2014.

Deepika’s final release of 2014 is of course Happy New Year with King Khan, and it is sure to round off another successful year for the beauty very nicely.

Ranveer Singh

One actor who has truly taken B-town by storm is the ever quirky and enigmatic Ranveer Singh. Anticipation has been rapidly building for his next film Gunday alongside sultry Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Kapoor.

An action crime thriller, Gunday has been written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, and also sees Irrfan Khan in a supporting role playing a ‘larger than life’ intelligence agent. The action packed movie will release on February 14, 2014.

Following the action film, fans can also expect Ranveer in Yash Raj Film’s Kill Dil directed by Shaad Ali. In 2012, Ali reportedly said: “Kill Dil is a film about the tricks the heart plays on an unsuspecting victim of love. Ranveer is pukka for the male lead.”

Ranveer can also enjoy the company of Govinda, Rani Mukerji, Parineeti Chopra and Ali Zafar who all have big roles in the film. Kill Dil will most likely release on September 5, 2014.

Films of 2014

Katrina Kaif

Following Dhoom 3 with Aamir, Katrina’s big film of 2014 is Bang Bang with Hrithik Roshan. The film is an official remake of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz’s Hollywood action thriller, Knight and Day (2010).

Shot in Thailand, it was here where Hrithik was injured during an action stunt which delayed the shooting of the film.

The film is directed by Siddharth Raj Anand and will release on October 2, 2014.

Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir Kapoor has had a very mixed 2013, with the success of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and the complete failure of Besharam with Mama and Papa Kapoor.

Things might look up again in 2014 however, as Ranbir hopes to impress with two new features. The first is Roy, a romantic thriller directed by Vikramjit Singh in what is his first film. It revolves around a dangerous love triangle that exists between Ranbir, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal. It is expected to release on June 20, 2014.

Next up is the highly anticipated film noir, Bombay Velvet that should hit cinemas on December 25, 2014. Directed by Anurag Kashyap, it is based on the book, Mumbai Fables, by Gyan Prakash.

Ranbir (a street fighter) will be joined by Anushka Sharma while audiences will be happy to know that they can also expect to see Karan Johar on the big screen playing the antagonist.

Films of 2014

Kareena Kapoor Khan

2014 is expected to be a big year for newly married Bebo who has 2 film releases and a cameo in hubby Saif Ali Khan’s March release of Happy Ending alongside Preity Zinta and Govinda.

Kareeena stars in Singham 2, the sequel to the first Ajay Devgn movie which became a super hit. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film should release on August 15, 2014. As well as this, Kareena will be in Badtameez Dil alongside Emraan Hashmi which is also rumored for a summer release. The romance is directed by Akshay Roy.

Other films to watch out for in 2014 are Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gabbar starring Akshay Kumar and Shruti Hassan on December 25, 2014.

Anurag Kashyap has a January 31 release of his psychological thriller, Ugly, which also screened at Cannes Film Festival. It stars Rahul Bhat and Ronit Roy. Farhan Akhtar also returns with Shaadi Ke Side Effects with Vidya Balan that will release on February 28, 2014.

So there you have it, all the big-name films for 2014. B-town continues to churn out some of the biggest films year on year and 2014 will certainly be no different. So, what will you be watching?
