Forensic teams and crime branch officers rushed to the scene
Gunshots were fired outside the Mumbai home of director Rohit Shetty, prompting heightened security and a police investigation.
The firing took place outside Shetty’s home in Juhu between 12:40 am and 1 am.
Five shots were discharged during the incident.
No injuries were reported, and Shetty was at home at the time of the firing, officials said.
Mumbai Police deployed additional personnel around the premises as a precautionary measure, with barricades and patrol vehicles stationed outside the building.
Preliminary investigations suggested only one individual carried out the firing.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the suspect smoking in the area before the incident.
Forensic teams and crime branch officers rushed to the scene and remain on site to establish the circumstances surrounding the firing.
A case has been registered against the assailants under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
A high-level meeting of Mumbai Police officials is also underway to review security arrangements and the progress of the investigation.
Video footage circulating on social media showed a heavy police presence outside Shetty’s residence, including armed officers and police vehicles.
Shetty and his family have not issued a public statement on the incident.
Officials from Pune later said that five men, aged between 18 and 27, were taken into custody from different parts of the city.
According to reports, those detained have been identified as Aman Anand Marote, Aditya Gyaneshwar Gayaki, Siddharth Deepak Yenpure, Samarth Shivsharan Pomaji and Swapnil Bandu Sakat.
Police said the men are being questioned closely to determine their role and any possible motive linked to the firing.
The Crime Branch has formed multiple teams to track down anyone else involved, while CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned for further clues.
The incident has renewed concerns over the security of Bollywood personalities in Mumbai.
Similar cases have been reported previously, including multiple firing incidents outside Salman Khan’s Bandra residence.
In 2024, two bike-borne men fired four rounds outside Khan’s home and fled the scene.
The Bishnoi gang later claimed responsibility for that attack and also for the murder of Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique.
Salman Khan has remained under high security since, amid a long-running feud linked to the Blackbuck shooting case.
Police are investigating whether the firing outside Shetty’s residence was intended as a threat or linked to any wider criminal motive.
Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
