"We will never back down."
Shots were fired outside Disha Patani’s family home in Bareilly. Police said the attack followed alleged comments by Disha’s sister, Khushboo Patani.
Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya said police and forensic teams reached the scene soon after being informed.
Officers recovered multiple empty cartridges from outside the house.
Present inside the property at the time were Disha’s father, retired DSP Jagdish Singh Patani, her mother, and her elder sister Khushboo. No one was injured.
Officials confirmed the family remained inside the house under police protection after the attack.
Five investigation teams have been formed.
Gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the gunfire.
A post read: “Jai Shri Ram Ram Ram to all brothers. I, Virendra Charan, Mahendra Saran (Delana). Brothers, today the firing that happened at Khushboo Patani/Disha Patani’s house (Villa No. 40, Civil Lines, Bareilly, UP), we got it done.
“She insulted our revered saints (Premanand Ji Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Ji Maharaj). She tried to demean our Sanatan Dharma. The insult of our deities will not be tolerated.
“This was just a trailer. Next time, if she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion, then no one in their house will be left alive.
“This message is not just for her, but also for all the artists of the film industry and those associated with them.
“Whoever in the future commits such an insulting act against our religion and saints should be ready to face the consequences.
“To protect our religion, we are ready to go to any extent. We will never back down. For us, our religion and society are one, and protecting them is our first duty.”
SSP Arya said: “We have transferred the case to the crime branch. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and an alert has been issued regarding Goldy Brar’s network.”
The attack was in retaliation for Khushboo’s alleged reaction to Aniruddh Acharya Ji Maharaj’s comment about live-in relationships.
Around the same time, Premanand Ji Maharaj had also spoken about romantic relationships and the netizens assumed that Khushboo was taking a dig at him.
However, she posted clarification and said some social media accounts were “deliberately spreading fake news” against her.
Defending Khushboo, Jagdish Singh Patani said:
“Khushboo was misrepresented. Her name was dragged into the matter of Premanand Ji Maharaj. We are Sanatanis, and we respect the sadhus and saints.
“If someone is misrepresenting her statement, it is a conspiracy to demean us.”
“Two unidentified assailants fired at my residence.
“Police are making all possible efforts; Bareilly Police, SSP, and ADG are all working on it.
“The gunshots are not indigenous; they are foreign-made. I think 8-10 rounds were fired. I came to know through social media that Goldy Brar has taken responsibility, but it is not clear yet.”
Police have not named any suspects and investigations are ongoing.
