he and Liaqat had been on their way to carry out a shooting
Two would-be hitmen who police say botched a planned shooting after one of them accidentally shot the other have been jailed.
Adam Liaqat and Asad Khan were preparing to carry out a shooting when Liaqat accidentally fired their gun, seriously injuring his accomplice in the early hours of November 23, 2025.
The pair had been parked in a stolen Mitsubishi Outlander in St Paul’s Road, Smethwick, shortly before 4:30 am when the weapon went off.
Khan, who was sitting in the passenger seat, suffered serious leg injuries and was forced to take a taxi to hospital.
An investigation by West Midlands Police’s Major Crime Team (MCT) established that the vehicle had been stolen from Rowley Regis the previous evening.
Detectives also uncovered a phone message between Khan and another person indicating that he and Liaqat had been on their way to carry out a shooting of their own before the accidental discharge of the firearm.
A subsequent search of Khan’s address resulted in the recovery of crack cocaine.
Liaqat was arrested on December 2 following a police pursuit involving a Honda Accord he was driving despite only holding a provisional licence.
His passenger, Yakuba Sawaneh, was also arrested after the car was stopped in Oldbury. During the pursuit, items including Class A drugs and a burner phone were thrown from the vehicle’s windows.
All three men stood trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court in May, where they were convicted of a range of offences.
Liaqat, of Middlemore Road, Sandwell, was found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply. He also pleaded guilty to driving offences and was convicted of a separate drugs supply offence.
He was jailed for 15 years on November 2.
Khan, of Lones Road, West Bromwich, was found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of Class A drugs. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison in September.
Sawaneh, of Perry Common, was convicted of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply and jailed for 42 months in September.
The sentences bring the total prison term handed to the three men to almost 30 years.
