Stage actress Munza Multani, from Hafizabad, Punjab, Pakistan, survived an attempt on her life after a gunman opened fire on her.
The incident took place during the evening of Wednesday, March 6, 2019, in the city of Faisalabad following one of her shows.
According to police, the shooting was committed by a man identified as Imran Venus and it was over a minor dispute.
It is unclear what the dispute was about, police officers only know that it was a minor issue.
Ashi Zubair, commonly known by her stage name Munza Multani, had been performing at a local theatre.
After her performance, she went into her dressing room to get ready to leave the venue.
Imran and his accomplices got into the theatre and attempted to enter the dressing room, however, Multani cried out for help. She also told them to leave or she would call the police.
The suspects left the theatre after Munza threatened to call the police.
However, as the actress got into her car to leave the theatre, Imran and his gang intercepted her vehicle and opened fire.
A police officer stated that several bullets hit the victim’s car. Fortunately, she escaped unhurt but was left shaken by the attempt on her life.
Imran and his accomplices immediately fled the scene following the attempt to murder Munza.
A complaint was lodged and police officers revealed that Imran has a criminal record. He was previously charged for harassing the stage actress.
The police have lodged an FIR under sections 148, 149, 337, 427 and 506-B of the Pakistani Penal Code against the suspects.
Police have started their investigations on the suspects and are searching for their whereabouts.
Munza Multani is a popular stage performer in theatres in major Pakistani cities.
She is mainly known for her acting performances on-stage but she has also performed Mujra dances from time to time.
In a separate incident, Pakistani actress and singer Reshma was shot dead by her husband in August 2018 following a domestic dispute.
Reshma used to live with her brother in Hakimabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The suspect had entered the house and started firing at his wife, killing her. He then escaped from the crime scene.
Police registered the case and an investigation into the matter took place.
That was the 15th case of violence against female artists in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018.
