He could potentially become the first Indian-roots footballer to play for Los Blancos.
South African football player, Luther Singh, has caught the attention from one of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid.
The football club’s interest in Luther Singh stems from his stunning performances for South Africa in age group competitions.
Reports also claim that the team’s “B” side, named Castilla, have followed the player in the last couple of years.
In 2016, during the annual Under 20 Championship, Luther Singh scored five goals for South Africa. He followed the performance up by winning the Golden Boot award, at the end of the tournament.
Luther Singh then followed up his performance as he scored four goals at the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in 2017. This also led to him winning the Golden Boot award, second time in a row.
It’s no surprise that just last month, he earned a place on the South African National Team. All of this has served to create a bigger spark of Real Madrid’s interest in Luther Singh.
The footballer player currently plays for Portuguese club Braga. Before then, he played for Swedish club GAIS Goteborg. But now, he may have a chance to follow the path of fellow South African player, Benni McCarthy.
Benni McCarthy eventually played for a Champions League club. If Luther Singh followed suit, he could potentially become the first Indian-roots footballer to play for Los Blancos.
The prospect of playing Champions League football no doubt would entice Singh. Especially if one considers the hard work he’s displayed throughout his football career.
Luther Singh’s agent, Farouk Khan, has perhaps helped the footballer to achieve such feats in his career. In the past, Farouk has supported Tokelo Rantie and Itumeleng Khune, through his football academy, Stars of Africa.
The young footballer has versatility on his side, playing effectively as a winger, a number ten, or even a centre-forward. This versatility surely attracted the attention of Real Madrid in the first place.
Luther Singh has an ability to find ways to score goals, as well as to create them. Something Castilla, who have only scored 42 times in 33 games this season, will definitely relish.
And, with his Indian heritage, Luther will surely receive the support of all Indian football fans as he continues to progress in his career.
Perhaps now, he will take the next step with Real Madrid.
