"it's probably best to be on the opposite side to them."

John Terry received backing from a fellow ex-Chelsea player as they appeared to back calls to deport benefit-claiming migrants following a post by Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe.

Lowe shared a clip of himself speaking in the House of Commons, where he outlined a hardline stance on migration and welfare.

In the post, he wrote: “We should ban foreigners from claiming benefits, and remove migrants who are incapable of financially supporting themselves – use those many saved billions to slash tax for the British men and women keeping the economy running.

“Restore Britain would do exactly that, and put our own people first. Finally.”

The post received a slew of responses, including one from Terry, who wrote:

“100 per cent yes.”

Former Chelsea captain also appeared to support the message, commenting: “200 per cent.”

The pair ended up being scrutinised for their apparent support.

One wrote: “Cool. The odds are that if John Terry and Dennis Wise support something, it’s probably best to be on the opposite side to them. Thanks.”

Another sarcastically posted: “Strange that, they seemed like such lovely, caring characters.”

A third added: “Wonder how the usual ‘ex-footballers should shut up and stick to football’ crowd will feel about this.”

One user described them as “two idiots”.

This is not the first time John Terry has faced criticism for his apparent support of Rupert Lowe.

In March 2026, Lowe had pledged to ban the burqa and also said he would outlaw signs in foreign languages at train stations.

Terry responded to that post with three clapping emojis, prompting backlash online.

Lowe later defended the former England defender and doubled down on the policy.

He wrote: “I see that England/Chelsea legend John Terry is taking some flak for applauding Restore Britain’s policy of banning the burqa and ensuring that all London stations use English, and English only.

“This is the position the vast majority of the British people support.

“There is now a political party that will say exactly what people think and fight to make it happen. Restore Britain.”

Since retiring from football, John Terry has worked in coaching and consultancy roles.

He served as assistant manager to Dean Smith at Aston Villa before returning to Chelsea in 2022 in a consultancy role focused on the club’s academy.
