"He really enjoyed it and said it was his favourite Indian restaurant."
Ed Sheeran showed his true colours with his epic gesture after dining at Asha’s in Birmingham.
The chart-topping singer visited his “favourite restaurant” for some food before surprising fans with an unexpected appearance at Diljit Dosanjh’s sold-out show at Utilita Arena.
Ed visited the popular Indian restaurant on Newhall Street with local rapper Jaykae.
According to the restaurant, it was Ed’s third visit.
Restaurant boss Nouman Farooqui said the pair ordered a bunch of spicy dishes.
He said: “We were happy to have Ed visit for the third time.
“He was dining with Jaykae and they ordered spicy butter chicken and a lamb vindaloo.”
Revealing Ed called Asha’s his favourite Indian restaurant, Nouman told Birmingham Mail:
“He really enjoyed it and said it was his favourite Indian restaurant.
“He visited after soundcheck at the Utilita Arena before he went on stage with Diljit in the second half of the concert.”
In a heartwarming gesture after his meal, Ed Sheeran offered Nouman a pair of tickets to the sold-out show.
Expressing gratitude, Nouman said:
“Ed was so kind as to offer us a pair of tickets for the sold-out show which I was really grateful for.
“I gave them to a couple of members of my staff who are big fans, so they could enjoy it.”
Diljit Dosanjh performed at Utilita Arena as part of his global Dil-Luminati Tour on September 22.
Diljit performed some of his hits but then he halted the concert and addressed the crowd.
Fans screamed and cheered as Diljit announced:
“Ed Sheeran aa gaya oye (Ed Sheeran has arrived).”
The British singer took to the stage with his guitar and belted out his hit ‘Shape Of You’.
Diljit joined in with ‘Naina’, from the film Crew, and it became a mashup with Ed’s soothing tone and Diljit’s energy.
The collaboration comes six months after Diljit joined Ed in Mumbai to sing the former’s hit song ‘Lover’.
During his time in Birmingham, Ed Sheeran also made a stop at The Roost pub in Small Heath.
Asha’s Birmingham is a popular dining hotspot for celebrities.
In 2021, Tom Cruise took a break from filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One to visit the eatery.
The Hollywood star reportedly spent two hours at the restaurant with five others before leaving a generous £60 tip.
The then-Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard also ordered two portions of the restaurant’s signature prawn curry in 2022.
