"this is another fantastic deal for Glasgow"
Dishoom, which is known for its Bombay comfort food and star-studded fan base, has announced it will open its first branch in Glasgow this summer.
Dishoom is set to take over a landmark building in the heart of the city.
Bosses have agreed a 20-year lease for 7,000 square feet at the former stock exchange on Nelson Mandela Place. The space includes both ground and basement floors.
John Menzies, director of the retail team at Savills Scotland, which confirmed the deal, said:
“Agreed off market, this is another fantastic deal for Glasgow and is testament to its popularity as a key food and beverage location.”
Glasgow food lovers welcomed the news online.
One person wrote: “Finally!”
Another said: “We have to go.”
A third added: “This is exciting.”
A fourth commented: “Can’t wait, it’s amazing.”
Dishoom’s Edinburgh branch is based in the capital’s St Andrew Square. It pays homage to Scottish botanist and town planner Patrick Geddes, who was invited to Bombay in 1915 and later founded the department of Sociology & Civics at Bombay University.
A description of the restaurant reads: “At Dishoom Edinburgh, we pay tribute to Geddes’ big-hearted character, his visionary thinking and his humanist ideals.
“Open all day, every day, serving Bombay comfort food for breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening tipples. All are welcome.”
Dishoom is also planning to open a restaurant in Leeds, having acquired the former Flannels unit on Vicar Lane.
Glasgow and Leeds will be the first new openings under the group’s core brand since Dishoom Battersea launched in 2023.
More recently, it has been focused on its more bar-led brand Permit Room, which now has sites in Brighton, Cambridge and Oxford.
Dishoom has 10 restaurants, including several sites in London as well as locations in Edinburgh, Birmingham and Manchester.
Dishoom is known for signature dishes like house black daal, tandoori chicken, spicy lamb chops and mattar paneer.
The announcement comes just days after Scotland’s best Indian restaurant was named at the 2025 national awards.
The Scottish Curry Awards 2025 were held in Doubletree by Hilton in Glasgow, celebrating the best curry houses and chefs across the country.
The prestigious event spotlights Scotland’s rich and diverse curry culture, as well as encouraging the future of the industry.
