"I was greeted with such warmth and familiarity."
Darsheel Safary revealed that he “hid his tears” when he worked with Aamir Khan for the first time in over 16 years.
As a child, Darsheel played the lead role of Ishaan Awasthi in Aamir’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par (2007).
In 2024, the duo reunited for an advert that promoted a drink called Charged.
The advert opens with a thoughtful Darsheel looking at a view outside a party.
His grandfather (played by Aamir) asks him what the matter is and why he is not dancing.
The young man laments that he has nothing to celebrate and has no job or girlfriend.
His grandfather then pacifies him and gives him the drink to recharge his mind.
Darsheel opened up on how he felt about working with Aamir after such a long time.
He said: “I was very excited to reconnect with Aamir sir and couldn’t believe it until it actually happened.
“The first time I met Aamir sir, I hid my tears. In fact, everybody in his team.
“I was greeted with such warmth and familiarity that it felt like a homecoming of sorts.
“We both revisited some memories. I felt so safe with him.
“So, I was just relaxed and enjoying the moment which I cherish now.”
Darsheel Safary also added that he is keen to evolve as an actor.
He continued: “Currently, I’m working on projects that can show my range as an actor.
“Hopefully, everybody will accept me with the same love they greeted me with the first time around. I’m working hard for the same.
“I feel evolving is an eternal process for an actor, and it indirectly helps the person evolve.
“I found the best way is to never stop absorbing and adding to your arsenal.
“So around 2021, I decided to get back into films and thankfully have been doing some films, web series and theatre simultaneously.”
Taare Zameen Par won Darsheel universal acclaim for his sensitive and nuanced portrayal of Ishaan.
The film showcased Ishaan’s journey as an eight-year-old dyslexic child who is packed off to a strict boarding school due to the impression that he is lazy and insolent.
His life is improved by a compassionate teacher named Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) who helps him overcome his learning difficulty and also assists him in honing his passion for art.
For Taare Zameen Par, at the age of 11, Darsheel Safary was nominated for the 2008 Filmfare ‘Best Actor’ award.
He currently holds the title of the youngest actor ever to be nominated within the category.
