It is reported that Aamir Khan’s upcoming acting project Sitaare Zameen Par will be focused on Down’s Syndrome.
The film is set to carry the theme of Taare Zameen Par (2007) forward.
Featuring a dyslexic child, Taare Zameen Par marked Aamir’s directorial debut and it became a classic of Indian cinema.
The film won numerous accolades and left an indelible imprint on viewers.
A source stated that similar to that film, Aamir wished to highlight a stigmatised issue in Sitaare Zameen Par.
The report explained: “Just like Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan wanted to bring focus on another condition that gets stigmatised in our society through Sitaare Zameen Par.
“That’s when he found a heartfelt story that sheds light on Down’s Syndrome and what people dealing with that go through.
“He wants to handle the subject very sensitively and create an impact that makes people suffering from the syndrome be treated as equals.”
The new film is being helmed by RS Prasanna and is scheduled to be released during Christmas 2024.
In a previous interview, Aamir Khan revealed details about the film.
He had said: “It is the next level of Taare Zameen Par. It is like Part Two.
“It is not the same story and the characters are also not the same.”
The star also underlined certain emotions one can expect from the movie:
“We are moving 10 steps ahead with the same theme.
“Taare Zameen Par was an emotional film. This film will make you laugh.
“[Taare Zameen Par] made you cry, this one will entertain you.
“The theme is the same. That’s why we kept this name very thoughtfully.
“We all have flaws, we all have weaknesses, but we all also have something special, so we are taking forward this theme.”
Aamir began shooting for the film in February 2024 and is currently busy filming.
The Laal Singh Chaddha actor is also basking in the success of his production Laapataa Ladies (2024).
During a live Q&A with fans on Instagram on March 7, 2024, Aamir enthused:
“The response is outstanding.”
“I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with the kind of response I am seeing everywhere.”
One fan put a smile on Aamir’s face by saying:
“Aamir Khan Productions can never go wrong.”
Along with Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan is also working on Lahore, 1947 as a producer. The film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta.
