Aamir Khan will return to the big screen with Sitare Zameen Par, his first release in over two years.
It is reported that the film will be released on June 20, 2025.
Aamir Khan, who was last seen in Laal Singh Chaddha in 2022, has kept a low profile since.
Rumours have swirled about his next release, but the reported June date has appeared to offer clarity.
A source told Pinkvilla: “Aamir is looking to capitalise on the open run in the month of June.
“Initially, he was contemplating to arrive on May 30, but a June 20 release is giving him a two-week clear run at the box office.”
The film, described as a slice-of-life social dramedy, is expected to blend humour, emotion and sports drama, a familiar formula for Aamir, whose past films like Taare Zameen Par and Dangal struck a chord with both critics and audiences.
The source continued: “Aamir strongly believes in the content of Sitaare Zameen Par, as it rides on his formula of laughter-emotion-drama.
“He was looking for a good window and has found one with a June 20 release. The entire marketing plan of this social dramedy is locked.”
The trailer is expected to debut in early May, with plans to attach it to the release of Raid 2, which hits cinemas on May 1.
The source added: “The trailer is locked and Aamir is targeting to attach the trailer to Raid 2.
“The idea is to communicate the date directly to the cinema-going audience, and Raid 2 is a film which is expected to do well at the box office.
“This is his plan at the moment, but knowing Aamir, there could be last-minute changes too.”
Aamir Khan previously said that Sitaare Zameen Par will continue the theme of his 2007 directorial, but the story is different.
“It is the next level of Taare Zameen Par. It is like Part Two.
“It is not the same story and the characters are also not the same.”
“The theme is the same but the difference is, unlike Taare Zameen Par, which left you with tears, Sitaare Zameen Par will leave in laughter.
“Prasanna is directing it and it is an entertaining film.
“We are looking at the same topic but with a different perspective.”
Beyond Sitare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan has other major projects in development.
These include a comedy directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and a superhero film with Lokesh Kanagaraj. He is expected to confirm his next lead role after wrapping up his current shoot.
Aamir Khan is also producing Lahore: 1947, starring Sunny Deol, which is scheduled for release in the second half of 2025.
