On June 9, 2025, the acclaimed filmmaker Partho Ghosh sadly passed away. He was 76 years old.
His death came after Ghosh suffered a heart attack in Mumbai, India.
The actress Rituparna Sengupta confirmed Ghosh’s passing and said:
“Heartbroken beyond words. We have lost an exceptional talent, a visionary director, and a kind soul.
“Partho Da, you will always be remembered for the magic you created on screen. Rest in peace.”
Partho Ghosh made his directorial debut with 100 Days (1991), which featured Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit.
The film Geet (1992) was a game-changer in the director’s career. It starred Divya Bharti, Avinash Wadhawan, and Shakti Kapoor.
He went on to helm classics including Dalaal (1993), Kaun Sachcha Kaun Jhootha (1997), and Maseeha (2002).
Ghosh also produced several Bengali works and was renowned for his craft within both Hindi and Bengali cinema.
The director also worked on hits including Agni Sakshi (1996) and Ghulam-E-Mustafa (1997).
Paying tribute to him on X, Mukesh J Bharti wrote:
“I can’t able to express my feelings in words as today is a very sad day in our life.
“We lost our beloved Partho Ghosh Dada. We will deeply miss you, Dada!
“May his soul rest in peace.”

“The Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association deeply mourns the passing of veteran filmmaker Partho Ghosh.
“A storyteller who gave us iconic films like 100 Days, Agni Sakshi, Dalaal and Ghulam-E-Mustafa, Partho Ji’s contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered.”

Ghosh’s final directorial was Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke (2018).
The film starred Mukesh J Bharti, Madalsa Sharma, and Avinash Wadhawan.
Partho Ghosh is survived by his wife Gauri Ghosh.
