Chorki releases 1st Teaser for 'Feu f

“The foundation of this series is based on a real event."

The teaser for Chorki’s highly anticipated web series, Feu, has been released.

It offers a glimpse into the tragic events of the 1979 Marichjhapi massacre.

Inspired by one of the darkest chapters in Sundarbans’ history, the series delves into the brutal treatment of Bengali refugees.

Feu explores the intersection of politics and humanity.

Directed by Sukorno Shahed Dhiman, it draws from the historical events where lower-caste Hindu people sought refuge on the island of Marichjhap.

These refugees mainly belonged to the Namasudra community,

Initially promised safety, the refugees faced a devastating eviction campaign led by the state government.

The Marichjhapi tragedy unfolded with food and water supplies being cut off, homes burned, and violence inflicted on the displaced.

Official accounts claim only two deaths, but eyewitness testimonies suggest the toll exceeded a thousand.

By May 16, 1979, Marichjhapi was declared refugee-free, leaving a scar on history that Feu aims to explore through its fictionalised narrative.

Dhiman, who spent years gathering information, co-wrote the story with Romel Rahman, crafting a screenplay that went through 17 drafts.

The director shared: “The foundation of this series is based on a real event.

“But everything surrounding it comes from my personal experiences with the people of Mongla, their lifestyles, and their political landscape.”

The teaser introduces viewers to the harrowing lives of refugees through a blend of striking visuals.

This includes boats navigating dense forests, moments of joy amidst adversity, and depictions of struggle.

A powerful line from the teaser encapsulates the theme:

“Is there anything that truly captures the lives of refugees? We’re like temple bells—swayed by whoever chooses to ring them.”

While the teaser avoids revealing character details, it effectively sets the tone for a story rich in emotional depth and historical resonance.

Dhiman’s decision to focus on the political backdrop of the Sundarbans adds another layer of intrigue to the narrative.

Though the release date remains unconfirmed, the teaser has already sparked anticipation among viewers eager to see this poignant tale unfold.

A user said: “The colours and location are amazing. Such a beautiful series but not much hype.”

Another wrote: “Interesting. Hope it will be great This is how Bangladeshi content moves forward day by day.”

Feu is expected to be a thought-provoking series that examines the resilience of displaced communities while shedding light on a lesser-known tragedy.
