“Mother is mothering, get out of the way.”
Charli XCX has made a bold statement with eleven striking covers for Pop Magazine’s Autumn/Winter 2025 issue, showcasing her fearless artistry and evolving style.
The ambitious release spans over 700 pages, cementing its status as a cultural landmark.
Charli takes centre stage, with her interview conducted by Harris Dickinson, offering rare insight into her creative journey.
Five covers shot by Alasdair McLellan capture Charli’s unapologetic “brat” aesthetic, trading polished glamour for raw, stripped-back visuals that reflect her current musical era.
The remaining six by Charlotte Wales explore equally daring themes.
Among the shared images, fans were captivated by a black-and-white portrait where Charli poses with loose hair covering most of her body, staring directly into the lens.
Another widely discussed image features her lips painted into a heart shape as she covers her chest with her hands, while wearing a statement necklace.
Other photographs show the star exhaling fire, posing in a bra and skirt, and embracing a minimalist, straight-faced aesthetic.
Each image reinforces her reputation for pushing boundaries.
The reaction was instant across Instagram and X, with fans calling her look “magnifique,” “diva,” and “beautiful.”
One supporter wrote: “Mother is mothering, get out of the way.”
Another admirer added: “OMG, take all my hair n wear it.”
Comments poured in praising her long hair, overall looks, and boundary-pushing aesthetic.
Celebrity admirers also joined the praise.
Emily Ratajkowski labelled the looks “sickening,” while Paris Hilton and Rita Ora shared fire and raised hands emojis in her comment section.
This feature follows Charli’s triumphant year.
Her album Brat secured three Grammy wins, including Best Dance Pop Recording for ‘Von Dutch’ and Best Electronic/Dance Album.
She also earned recognition as the art director of Brat, taking home the Grammy for Best Recording Package.
The album achieved eight nominations overall, including Album of the Year.
Charli XCX, born Charlotte Aitchison, has proudly acknowledged her South Asian heritage.
Her mother, Shameera, is a Gujarati Muslim who fled Uganda during Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asians in the 1970s.
Her father is Scottish, and Charli has openly discussed the complexities of growing up mixed-race in England.
Speaking to Vogue Singapore in 2024, she said: “I grew up in two half-lives.”
“When I would go and visit my mum’s family, I felt very Indian,” she continued.
“It was all the classic scenes of my nani and bappa cooking with Bollywood films playing in the background and everybody speaking in Gujarati.
“But then I’d go home to this other world which was largely white,” Charli added.
“It was almost like I would experience the Indian part of my identity only on the weekends. I never quite felt like I fit into either world, which I think commonly happens with mixed-race kids.”
Fans have celebrated her openness about identity, seeing it as part of the same boldness that defines her music and fashion.
Pop Magazine’s feature continues this fearless narrative.
