"I asked them not to make it spicy"

Chelsea FC captain Cesar Azpilicueta has given his opinion on Indian food and while he said that he enjoys it, he did not have a good first experience with the cuisine.

The Spanish defender has been at Chelsea since 2012 and the club captain since 2019.

While Azpilicueta has enjoyed a successful career in the Premier League, the footballer admitted that his first experience with Indian food was far from satisfactory.

The 31-year-old revealed that he and his wife had visited an Indian restaurant and discovered that the food was extremely spicy.

Azpilicueta explained that while he did ask for the food to be made less spicy, he and his wife’s tongues were “on fire” as the food was still too spicy.

He said: “I really like Indian food but my first experience was not that great.

“I went to an Indian restaurant with my wife and the food was so spicy!

“I asked them not to make it spicy but our tongues were on fire.”

While his fans laughed at his unfortunate experience, they had praised him in August 2020 after he wished Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and his family a speedy recovery.

The Bachchan family had contracted Covid-19 at the time.

Azpilicueta sent Abhishek, who has been a longtime Chelsea fan, a letter, wishing him a speedy recovery. The actor went on to share the letter on social media.

The letter read:

“We heard you aren’t very well at the moment and just wanted to get in touch to wish you all the best.”

“I know the players and I were very moved when we heard about what you have been going through and we just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and your family in what I can imagine are difficult times.

“On behalf of all the players and everyone at Chelsea may I send you all our best wishes.”

Abhishek had also sent his support to Chelsea as they prepared for their match against Arsenal in the FA Cup Final. However, Chelsea lost the match 2-1.

During his time at Chelsea, Cesar Azpilicueta has won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. He has also won the Europa League twice.

He has made 391 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea and has scored 13 goals.
