it is no surprise that Brahmastra led the Google search charts
Google has unveiled its Year in Search 2022 and in India, Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, was the most searched film in the country.
Google’s Year in Search features a rundown of the biggest trends over the year.
According to the list, Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy film generated more interest than any other film in India, even though it was not the most commercially successful Indian film of 2022.
Brahmastra, which starred Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy, earned over Rs. 400 Crore (£39 million) at the box office.
Given it was a hugely anticipated film, it is no surprise that Brahmastra led the Google search charts for films in India.
The cameos from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone also contributed to Google searches among internet users.
Brahmastra was followed by KGF Chapter 2, which is the highest-grossing Indian film of 2022.
The Yash-starrer grossed approximately Rs. 1,200 Crore (£119 million).
Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files came in third place. The film generated a lot of interest mainly due to the film’s subject and eventual success.
The ‘boycott Bollywood’ trend resulted in many films failing at the box office and it also seemed to reflect in less online interest.
Instead, more films from the South Indian film industry were searched on Google.
After The Kashmir Files, four South Indian films followed.
This included the Telugu sensation RRR at number four, Kannada hit Kantara at five and Kamal Haasan’s Vikram in seventh place.
But the most striking entry is Pushpa: The Rise at number six.
Despite releasing in 2021, it still managed to dominate Google India’s search trends.
This may be due to the ongoing interest in the film’s sequel.
In addition to Google searches in India, Pushpa: The Rise has also seen four of its songs among the top 10 most-watched music videos on YouTube India.
While ‘Srivalli’ bagged the first spot on the list, the Hindi version of ‘Saami Saami’ was in third place, followed by ‘Oo Bolega Ya Oo Oo Bolega’ in sixth place and ‘Oo Antava Mawa Oo Oo Antava’ in seventh place.
Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was in eighth place.
The film received a lot of attention, however, it was mostly for negative reasons.
As part of the ‘boycott Bollywood’ trend, many said they would not watch the film while others criticised the fact that it was not an original story.
Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2 was in ninth place.
Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder was the only non-Indian film in the top 10.
The film polarised audiences, perhaps contributing to its high search trend.
In 2021, the most-searched film was Jai Bhim, followed by Shershaah and Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai.
Regarding the most-searched-for Bollywood stars of 2022, Sushmita Sen led the way, ranking fifth among the most Googled people in India.
She caused a lot of surprises when it was revealed that she was dating businessman Lalit Modi.
Coincidentally, Lalit Modi was ranked fourth.
